Default New house Nasengold launces unisex fragrance #S

Launching in March, new house Nasengold debuts a fragrance with the slightly anonymous name #S.

The fragrance is based around the component "lie de vin" which after some googling I've learnt is Lees: Solids-including spent yeast cells, grape pulp and seeds-that settle out of a wine during fermentation and aging.

    From http://nasengold.com:

"What makes this fragrance special is the use of lie de vin, a natural product that has formed part of the perfumerīs palette for more than 100 years. The idiosyncratic yeasty, fruity aroma of this valuable product, the result of cognac production, has historically been used only in trace amounts.

Christian Lars Plesch has rediscovered it anew and built up a scent around it. In #S lie de vin is not merely an instrument, but the conductor of the whole orchestra.

As the central element lie de vin gives an innovative and distinctive freshness to notes of grapefruit and spices such as pink pepper, cardamom and ginger. This freshness is emphasized and set off with notes of wild rose, amber, musk and cedar."

The Lie de Vin part does sound interesting, and what a cute company name they have chosen, Gold for the Nose

Would consider at least trying this house if I crossed paths with it.

I wonder if that's the same thing as cognac essential oil.

I recently have had a couple of conversations with the nose behind the fragrance, Christian Plesch. First, he is a very nice person. Easy to talk to and very excited about the launch of S. In addition to this launch, he is hard at work on a pepper-centred fragrance for release next year.

He has sent me a couple of samples of S in advance of the launch. I guess his enthusiasm is contagious because Im quite intrigued and looking forward to the samples when they arrive.

If you are looking for samples he does have a limited amount available.

    nasengold.com has more info.

    Regards Rex

BTW, I have no connection with the house at all.

Well I've worn S(my number sign key is dead) on five different occasions now and here's a few of this "fumeheads" observations.

First, the launch in March seems to be the best time for this scent. Its seems most appropriate for spring/summer.

The initial blast is a grapefruit/pepper combo this very pleasant. It is reminiscent of those classic citrus scents from Carthusia and Eau d'Italie.

The drydown develops into a soft/spicy scent with the ginger note taking centre stage. Fortunately, the ginger is not overpowering. The soft/spicy mid-notes develop over time into a warm fairly light amber musk.

I believe that the use of "lin de vin" was intended to provide a mild "Frapin-like accord". You will see notes of cognac leaf and beer(no, not a mistake). Indeed, you can pick a "mild boozy note" or "Ghost note?". if you sniff closely.

Overall, this is a perfectly fine spring/summer mildly spicey citrus. The price will be 120euros for 100mls.
You know, this really needs a flat out booze accord. Of course, cognac or an ambered rum would be perfect IMO.

Just a few thoughts for you. Not a bad experience.

    Rex

BTW-sniffed Hugo Boss Red today and its quite generic and not FBW to me.

Just got a sample of this (thanks Rex!), and it's very nice. I can see where Rex is going with the "frapin-like accord", it does remind me a little bit of L'humaniste, but seems to have some white flowers not present in L'humaniste. It's also kinda similar to Le Labo Bergamote 22. Definitely a nice scent for the summer.

Joining in the thanks to Rex for a sample! I found it to be a minimalistic scent, mildly sweet with a touch of ginger, with an "aura" of something boozy. All in all not a bad but it didn't leave much of an impression. Could be a fine office friendly choice or be used as a summer cologne.
