I voted other, but I could have voted for EdP Frédéric Malle. It would either be them or O'driù for me nowadays.
    Current Top Favorites:
    1) Portrait of a Lady (EdP Frédéric Malle)
    2) Giorgio for Men vintage (Giorgio Beverly Hills)
    3) Dia Man vintage edt (Amouage)
    4) Les Nombres d'Or Vetyver (Mona di Orio) - tie
    4) Lalfeorosa (O'driù) - tie

    6) Anat Fritz Original Formula and Classical (Anat Fritz)
    7) Captain vintage (Molyneux)
    8) Tzora (Anat Fritz)

I vote other because this is pointless, I like and dislike stuff from all of them.
    We want a 'Niche' forum.

I should have taken out other.

because now all the creed fanboys are going to distort the poll.

I fully concur - I thought this instantly and held off voting. But, decided to vote for Guerlain and then mention Caron as an avant-garde perfume house. I believe their sheer output places them outside of "niche" - however, they deserve to be listed if Guerlain is.

However, another "Other" for me, is Comme Des Garcons. Brilliance and one of the earlier niche houses to break molds and open minds to 'where' perfumery can go - as well as deliver brilliant compositions that are more in the realm of familiarity. Incense was 're-invented' by the house...or, perhaps better said, explored to its deepest depths and context to the world's faiths & spirituality in the Incense line. In and of itself - fantastic and each has its own wonderful merit.

And, I must mention Annick Goutal as well. Her brilliance lives on in each incredible bottle she crafted and the house has carried her legacy through her beautiful daughter, Camille.

So much focus on "niche" nowadays. To me, bottles of Vintage Yves Saint Laurent, Guerlain, Hermes, and Caron hold both a closer place in my heart and have a fantastic story to tell.

Nice thread (for curiosity's sake) - but I think the realm of "niche" has been focused on so much that it is the new 'mainstream for perfume lovers'. Here on Basenotes, a conversation in scent cannot be completed without someone mentioning a niche offering that they believe compares to a 30+ year old Vintage classic and somehow captures the notes, vibe and energy. While I understand how 'niche' may save perfumery from itself (cheap, synthesized ingredients and poor reformulations from a lot of large houses that dominate sales)...one has to be aware that a lot of 'niche' houses incorporate synthesized ingredients as well. Don't let the price tag sell you on the quality of what you are buying. Always trust your nose...

    Cheers,

    ericrico

I can't say I can really pick one in particular. As everyone who reads my posts knows, I have a certain affinity for Slumberhouse, as I love Ore, Norne, and Sova especially, but I'm not sure they would be my "top niche" so to say. I also really enjoy Amouage's stuff, specifically Memoir Man, Jubilation XXV, and Reflection Man.

Still, the beauty of perfumery is the sheer wealth of options in the designer, niche, and indie realms.

I voted Amouage b'coz I'm wearing one from this house today, but my vote can be for any of the ones listed in your forum based on the day!

Good that u excluded creed - IMO their vintages can be considered on this poll, but current versions are so watered down that I cant classify them as niche and they are too expensive for the $ as well.

It will be nice to see the outcome of a poll with abt 100+ houses (or just 100) - niche / rare houses & the commercially successful giants - while it might not be possible to put a list like this in a forum like ours, if it does get done and voters have the ability to select just 5 or maybe 10 from them; a result of such a poll will be interesting. Again, which 100 to choose as niche is the difficult part!

It's tough to make a decision, because the more fragrances a house has in their range, the more likely you are to come across one you dislike (or even one that is objectively disappointing).

I mean, I love Sycomore and really like Coromandel, Bois de Iles and even Cuir de Russie, but most of the other Les Exclusifs do nothing for me.

I've gotta say that Dior's Couturier collection is pretty damn good (and quite consistent across the range); for Patchouli Imperial to impress a person that doesn't like patchouli that much is testament to their quality and composition.

Dior's Vetiver was too green/sharp for me, but I can still recognise its quality - much better than Guerlain Vetiver, which I dislike.

Armani's Prive had some really impressive frags in there, too, but the line as a whole is let down by some weak ones.

I've chosen L'Artisan Parfumeur simply because I have a large number of their bottles. It would be followed by the Prada Essences, Guerlain, Les Histoires de Parfum, Diptyque, By Kilian … well, I have difficulties in naming one favorite.
