Try to get a hold of the tin can version of Rive Gauche by YSL.
Thread: Aftershave/Dated vibe
So I'm looking for a new, everyday sort of versatile fragrance.
I'm looking for something with an aftershave-y but dated vibe (yeah, I'm not much into fruity fragrances), but yet undeniably French, with a citrusy/civety French vibe. So here are my choices so far:
YSL pour homme
Anything else that you could suggest?
"If a perfume stinks, it's a disaster when she turns off the light." - Jean-Paul Guerlain
YSL pH is one of my favorites. I'd suggest checking out the following:
Monsieur de Givenchy
Montana Parfum d'Homme
YSL pH haute concentree
Annick Goutal Eau de Sud
Dated - Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur Cologne
Civet is hard to find in modern masculine perfumery (even Kouros has been cleaned up a bit). I'd recommend Caron Troisieme home. It has a definite barbershoppy vibe in the drydown, not with civet but with an interesting, semi-dirtyish musk.
Tsar by Van Cleef & Arpels
(matches your criteria except for Civet, which it doesn't have, at least to my nose)
Chanel Platinum Egoiste?
Try Quorom also.
+1 on Pierre Cardin and adding
Tabak Original. Such a cheapie and was my favorite purchase of last year. A bit nasty out of the bottle, but the dry down is amazing.
-Cologne is the only fashionable thing that fits me! (Me, circa 1997-present)
Worth pour Homme
Cracatere by Daniel Hechter
Chanel pour Monsieur Concentree
+1 Monsieur de Givenchy
Also, maybe Habit Rouge
Pinaud Clubman is good stuff. Dated maybe, but not outdated.
Current top 10:
1. L'Artisan Dzing!
2. Lorenzo Villoresi Yerbamate
3. Guerlain Bois d'Armenie
4. L'Artisan Al Oudh
5. Bond No. 9 Andy Warhol Silver Factory
6. Parfumerie Generale Bois Blond
7. Andy Tauer L'Air du Desert Marocain
8. Guerlain Derby
9. Geo F Trumper Eucris
10. Parfum d'Empire Ambre Russe
This is the one and only time I'll ever recommend it. Drakkar Noir
Monsieur De givenchy or Chanel Pour Monsieur. I don't think Rive gauche is citrusy or civety, but you might like it.
You could also try original Givenchy Gentleman (again no real citrus though.)
Eau de Hermes - older versions particularly have lots of civet in a citrus cologne.
Funnily enough I was thinking along similar vibes and intend to pick up Paco Rabane XS as I think it would fit the bill perfectly.
Citrus, civet, French - tick!
(in no particular order)
YSL Rive Gauche
Azzaro pour homme
Versace pour homme
Bogart Pour Homme.
Lapidus Pour Homme.
