Is there any real difference in all of these yearly flankers? Any of them better than the reformulated original in terms of longevity/sillage or overall flavour?

Tried it once. It's OK but nothing special. Smells similar to other summer versions.

The original is a stinker and its flankers are as well, IMO.

I wouldn't pay $50 for it. It's similar to the original except it's a bit lighter. Yes it smells like the 09 version the most which isn't worth $50 either.
    My current favorites:

Bleu De Chanel, Creed Green Irish Tweed, Zino Davidoff, Dior Homme Intense, Creed Royal Oud, M7 (all versions), Chanel Egoiste, Dior Homme Sport, and Thierry Mugler Pure Malt.

Haven't tried that one yet. If it smells like the 09, it's worth a shot. Then again, I picked my 4.2 OZ 09 bottle for $15 shipped.

I almost bought 09 a couple of times, but I was still working on my bottle of L'Eau d'Issey and by the time I finished it the 09 bottles were becoming sparse. Think they go in the $80 to $100 range now.

+! . Never understood the appeal for this fragrance. I dont like it and its one of the few fragrances that gives me a headache at ~15 minutes after application.

I don't mind the original, It's what I used to wear before I found Basenotes. However I recently I blind bought a bottle of Gold Absolu and I much prefer that.

I don't think I would ever buy another bottle of the normal or summer Issey though. I think it's one of those fragrances that you really love if you haven't smelt many fragrances. Now that I've sampled Tom Ford fragrances and Creed etc, I just can't see myself ever wanting more of it. There are a tonne of vastly superior fragrances out there.

A 12 foot bottle of Issey Miyake? Thats a whole lot of Yuzu juice!

It's nice, a slightly lighter and more green version of the original. I still prefer the original version over any of the flankers (Sport, blue, etc.), but the Summer 2012 version is solid in its own right.

I wouldn't pay that much for it. It's nice, and worth the cash, but definitely not that high.
