L Occitane - Eau Des Baux
Hello! Very happy to have just joined and looking forward to sharing favorites.
Currently I am using Timbuktu by L'Artisan (notes: green mango, pink pepper berries, cardamom, karo karounde flower, smokey incense of papyrus wood, patchouli, myrrh, vetiver) and Vanille Exquisite by Annick Goutal (notes: vanilla, angelica, almond, benzoin, white musk, sandalwood, gaïac wood)mixed together.
Yet still I am craving a gourmand but deep dark and woody scent for everyday use. Something with a smokey insence and slightly powdery vanilla. Does anyone have any good recommendations that fit the profile? Preferably scents that do not have an amber or orange notes. I appreciate all suggestions.

I still kinda like Pi if you can consider it in this category.
Full Incense for me.
Diptyque Eau Duelle -- not a powdery vanilla but very much an incense-y, spicy one. Amber is a listed note, but it wears very lightly on me.
Serge Lutens Un Bois Vanille -- the vanilla is quite sweet, but it's well-balanced by woods and incense. If you need more incense, I wear this one alongside CdG Avignon.
Le Labo Vanille 44
Amouage Memoir Man

I thought of Baux as soon as I saw this thread. Very good scent, longevity and projection.
Another for Eau des Baux.
one more for Eau des Baux - cheap, lasts 6+ for me and readily available, i consider this pretty much year round...
+1 Eau Des Bavx
Currently on my Rotation:
1. Cartier D'un Soir
2. Loewe Essencia
3. Bergamotto Marino
4. Herb Alpert Listen
8. Pal Zileri No 18
0. Kenzo Homme
Eau des Baux? What? That's got more myrtle than anything else, which makes it quite herbal.
I hate to plug a belligerently expensive fragrance, but Poivre 23 is just perfect. It is a sublime vanilla incense wood.
Good suggestions already. It seems you're looking for a non-ambery sweet woodsy oriental - and a few additional good ones with vanilla and incense come to mind:
Chanel Coromandel and Guerlain Spiritueuse Double Vanille. These are definitely sweet and contain both vanilla and incense without being ambery (the sweetness is benzoin, a different resin).
You might also want to consider Amouage Lyric Man (rose/incense), L'Artisan Al Oudh (a "dirty" incense with dried fruits and cumin) or Penhaligon's Elixir (woodsy rose and cinnamon).

eau de baux is fantastic as a spicy, incense vanilla.
If you want more incense and less vanilla then Dyptique 34 Blvd St Germain is a great incense/spice/resinous fragrance. I wear both of these two all of the time (34 BSG yesterday in fact).

Beware of what you wish: it might come true.
