Default just received samples. how to use them?

So i just received my 6pack of sampled from HDP. Each a 2ml vial with NO SPRAY!
How do I use them for full wear? do I dab it on my fingers then on my neck/wrist? How I know what " a spray" is?

Weird questions but I'm interested in your methodology.

    Thank you!

You can either use the stick to dab it on, or you can use your fingers.

I would suggest you buy some atomizer bottles from Accessories for Fragrances on ebay, or on their online store as well as some metal funnels. This way you can transfer from the sample vials with the stick, to the atomizer bottles with the spray.

From what I gather fragrances smell different depending on whether you dab or spray.

Dab on your wrist and rub your wrists together and then on your neck.

The opening could be different depending on whether you spray or dab, when dabbing you don't get the big initial oomph. But the drydown should be the same. Also, when dabbing, one ends up using less product usually, so things appear weaker. Make sure that you dab an adequate amount of product.
Incidentally, I would also dab on a paperstrip, to smell with more ease (it lasts longer on a paper strip), though paper is no substitute for skin.

You can dab but don't rub!

I normally knock them back in one. Ah, refreshing.

I dab directly from the vial onto my skin. Antecubitals, thorax, and nape.

Luca Turin debunked the myth that rubbing can somehow damage or 'bruise' the scent molecules - if that's what you were alluding to. That said, vigorous rubbing will generate heat which will cause premature evaporation of the top notes, so in that sense, I agree with you. No harm in pressing the wrists together gently in order to transfer the scent though.

Funny, I was just reading this from the Frederic Malle website earlier this afternoon:

"I don’t recommend to do so for two reasons: First rubbing does not make the alcohol evaporate faster. All it does is mixing the stuff that your skin has collected during the day with the fragrance. It is not a great way to improve things ! The other reason why I don’t recommend it is that this gesture forces you to apply fragrance on both arms, therefore not allowing you to try another, should you wish to do so."

Hmm, Luca vs Frédéric on the evaporation issue - I guess the jury's still out. I must say, I do tend to agree on the second point though: I always leave my wrists fragranc-free if I think there's a chance that I'll get to sample some scents while I'm out and about.

If they dont have sprayers, I usually drink them.
That way the fragrance notes goes through my body's digestive system and come out of my pores on my skin, leaving an amazing aura to people who walk by me. Infact I ve gotten many compliments for passing gas using this method.

I KNOW this sounds like bunk, but a fragrance smells different if you spray a fine mist on yourself than if you daub a bunch of little patches...Try to get inexpensive 1ml or 2ml atomizers for your samples that come with daubers.

Sweetie, we need to get you to a Basenotes meetup where any bit of exposed skin is fair game for your 2nd- to 20th test. Muuuuahhh What fun!!

Fully agree with this. A spray seems more prominent, fresh, and representative of the actual scent. I don't rub after spraying either, just let the frag do its own work and move naturally.

Touch the bottle to your wrist, flip it over along with your wrist, flip it back. Release the tip of the bottle a bit to allow air, then use the tip to rub it in.
You can also use a pipette/dropper

Take an atomizer, just the atomizer no glass (you can break open an old sample that you may have). Drop it in the vial and spray.

I buy a pack (50) of 2ml atomizers and just dump it when done. Considering that a pack is for $20, no loss.
