    Default Your favorite neroli/orange blossom?

One of the prominent hesperides, neroli is destilled from the blossoms of the bitter orange tree and stands out as the deepest and most flowery of the common citrus notes. It is often found in compositions with a whole array of different citrus types, as in the classic cologne style, but can also take center stage in fragrances that highlight its unique freshness, slightly bitter aroma and characteristic floral aspects. But which neroli-centered fragrance is your personal favorite?

My own vote goes to Chanel's Eau de Cologne from the Exclusifs range for its sharp invigorating freshness and its harmonious and very successful calibration of citruses and musk. But which one do you prefer? Maybe I didn't even list it?

My vote goes to Neroli by C&S. Very authentic, flowery scent. I bought it for my mother some time ago. She said it reminded her of the orange orchards that she grew up knowing.

Question for you-- is L'Erbolario Neroli masculine? My husband has L'Erbolario Orangerie and I find it too masculine for myself.

Edit: I voted "other" for L'Artisan's Fleur d'Oranger (2007). It's gone now but bottles pop up on eBay from time to time.

I have really fallen in love with Maison Francis Kurkdjian - APOM pour Homme, just sourced a FB for the warmer weather after extended sampling.

Just a beautiful frag, the orange flower/amber combination is still fresh for summer, and I get great longevity, and constant compliments... What more could you ask for...

It's always funny we talk about neroli. I'll mention it again, but I grew up with a small orange tree in my room (yes, in my room), and while it did have fruit from time to time, it mostly just had orange blossoms.

That being said, when I first smelled Neroli Portofino I thought it smelled just like that tree, and it is a great scent memory for myself. Perhaps you may not like it as much as I do, but as far as neroli goes, I find it very good.

Default Re: Your favorite neroli/orange blossom?

I love APOM for it's orange blossom accord and the neroli in Jardin d Amalfi which is coupled with a rose after the citrus opening is to die for.

Castile and Neroli Portofino are good as well.

Default Re: Your favorite neroli/orange blossom?

Several colognes on this list don't smell of Neroli at all.

I find Neroli a strange category -- I've tried about five or six Neroli scents, and like them all pretty much equally (Chanel is probably the best, by a hair). Neroli just plain smells good, and almost any high quality Neroli fragrance pleases my nose.
    Current Top Five:

    1. Creed Green Irish Tweed
    2. Tom Ford Neroli Portofino
    3. Hermes Concentre d'Orange Verte
    4. Bond No. 9 New Haarlem
    5. Creed Original Vetiver

    I really like Seville a l'Aube by L'Artisan.

Default Re: Your favorite neroli/orange blossom?

From the list these are the one I've tried

Czech and Speake - Neroli - Straight up neroli, nothing new, fade fast

Hermès - Eau d'Orange Verte - This one is more about the orange fruit than the flower

Jean Paul Gaultier - Fleur du Mâle - Cannot smell a distinct orange blossom note from this one. It's more about a mix of various white flowers

Maison Francis Kurkdjian - APOM pour Homme - Gaultier2 with a lot of orange blossom on top. The orange blossom, however, doesn't go together with other notes. Not original and lousily done

Serge Lutens - Fleurs d'Oranger - My chose of orange blossom. It's orange blossom with extra emphasis on the floral aspect

Tauer - Orange Star - Orange hard candy

Thierry Mugler - Mugler Cologne - Also cannot smell a distinct orange blossom note from this one. Greatly done for a green/citrusy fragrance

Best scent: Chanel Eau de Cologne. 10/10. Perfection. But since it seems to last about 20 minutes - 1 hour, I don't find this very practical.

So, I would go with Tom Ford Neroli Portofino. Great summer neroli, good longevity. Bond No. 9 Eau de New York is not far behind.

I love neroli! My personal vote for everyday masculine wear goes to Czech and Speake (though I messed up in the poll). I have a real soft spot for Lutens's Fleurs d'Oranger much more blowsy and floral. Both have a hint of sweat which I enjoy. I wish my knowledge of the other Neroli scents was more extensive - sounds like a project!

Yeah NP has pretty surprising longevity given the style of scent (citrus and neroli).

A lot of love for Thierry Mugler - Mugler Cologne, I see. I bought it recently, wore it for a day, and had to return it. Luckily it was from a Macy's who usually take most fragrances back, within reason.

That one funky note, usually described as a sperm note, killed it for me.

Thanks, everybody - what a variety in votes and an incredibly close race this is. No less than four fragrances - APOM, Neroli Portofino, Chanel Eau de Cologne, and Mugler Cologne - are leading the poll with only 2 votes separating 1st and 4th place at the moment, and Eau d'Orange Verte following suit just behind them.
Thanks for voting and for all your input - as always, I enjoy and very much appreciate all your feedback! And feel free to go on voting, guys - the poll stays open and there's no clear winner at all at this point!

Neroli by Roja Dove has one of the most bright, polished, natural-smelling neroli notes I've come across.
That said, I find it a tad boring.
    It's also hideously expensive.

Yes you mean Essential, more grassy and lemony, i prefer Absolute which is also along the english olfactory tradition becoming finally ethereal and romantic. The genre is particular (just for the lovers of the old british style in perfumery).
