Default Help: a fougere for Spring?

    Hey everyone,

To give you an idea of the scents I like, I am a big fan of Dior Homme/Intense, L'Instant EDT and CdG2 Man for Autumn/Winter. I have Eau Sauvage, Guerlain Homme L'Eau, DH Sport and Guerlain Homme Intense for Summer. I currently have Kenzo PH and Homme Boisee for Spring, but as much as I like them, I don't find them particularly liked by others and I'm growing a little tired of them.

What I want is a fresh fougere for Spring. I had and really liked Mont Blanc Legend, but unfortunately I discovered it was causing me almost immediate headaches on application - the first scent I've ever had that did this. Sadly, I had to give it away. I then thought I'd found a replacement in Platinum Egoiste. I sampled this in store and was absolutely blown away. Almost bought it on the spot. Glad I didn't. After a few more tries I found it just too much - really tinny, metallic and harsh. I went off it alarmingly quickly.

So, I'm looking for a fresh fougere (or woody) - preferably designer rather than niche - that is beautiful, clean and women find irresistible - too much too ask? Any suggestions?

Right, I promise I'll never ask about fougeres again. I'll stick to my citruses, chypres, woody spicys and floral musks.

Here are a few I recommend though they are niche:

Fougere Royale by Houbigant - Very nice with a added chamomile note and it has a slight rosey heart. It does veer away from the traditional Fougere but it's good.

Oxford & Cambridge by Czech & Speake - A masculine lavender fragrance that shines due to the added peppermint and oakmoss. Very good indeed.

Murdocks Fougere - Here we have a very traditional based english Fougere. It opens with soapy lavender and green herbal spices and a lot of oakmoss. Good stuff.

Rive Gauche is quite clean and fresh. I also like Caron Troisieme homme for the spring, slightly floral, citrusy, the musk is not too strong.

    Houbigant - Fogure Royale

    In that order.

If you like platinum egoiste but found it too harsh try a&f fierce, ck eternity or paco rabanne xs

Another niche - but it's great - HdP 1725 Casanova. I great fresh modern fougere - much more refined and smooth than Rive Gauche, with some citrus up top, and lavender and vanilla for much of the ride. An excellent fragrance!

Of the on'es mentioned I prefer Troisieme Homme by far, but I wonder if it classifies as a fougere? Dior's Dune has some semblance of Platinum Egoiste but I would say without any harshness; there is a big fig note in it that you would have to like though. Great for warmer weather.

Never heard of Murdocks Fougere. But I would suggest the trio of Victorian Era fougeres: GFT Wild Fern, Pens English Fern, or Crown Fougere if you can find it. Perhaps even Houbigant Duc de Verveins? They did make the first fougere.

Penhaligon's Sartorial.... it is "fougere" like, but modern and clean. It has a beautiful beeswax note--there is a sort of metallic opening (that fades rather quickly), but that's part of its quirkiness.
