Default The drydown of La Nuit De L'Homme

I love this fragrance, I really do. Well, until I reach the final stage of it...

The drydown smells wierd to me. Sweaty, watery, and something else that I don't know of yet. Grassy. It smells almost as if I were to find a pair of stinky shoes and let them be soaked in water.
Now, I'm not very good at notes, so I can't really say what note that is making me feel like a sweaty old man dancing in the rain. Could it be the vetiver? I don't know, but would love to find out.
Do you get this kind feel from the drydown too? I would love to smell the tonka/vanilla that everybody else it talking about.

    Thanks!

EDIT: Don't forget that it's the drydown that I'm talking about here, not the opening or middle.

Didn't get that vibe when I sampled it.

Oo! I need to test this again! What a great image.

It is probably the mix of cumin, cedar and vetiver, though.

I don't get any of that relatively offensive imagery with the dry-down but I dislike the scent immensely from top to bottom.

I'm in the same boat. There's nothing about it that I enjoy.

The drydown is very interesting. It's when it's real identity comes out.

It's one of my favorite fragrances. IMO I don't get the sweaty, watery, grassy drydown. But each persons perception is different

For me its the opposite, I can't stand the opening. To me it gives me indian vibes. Not to be prejudiced against any group of people but coming from a very diverse country people tend to associate smells with different races.

But once it dries down it gets heavenly. Sweet synthetic lavender that evokes warmth and comfort. Still I can't get pass the awful opening.

I don't favor the base notes either.. it smells like a moldy wood and tonka. I think it's the vetiver note in the base that mixes with the tonka that gives it this effect.

Not many gets this feeling that I get. I'm not sure how to really describe the scent, but it sure smells dated and grassy.

Are you sure that note is something you want to get? dont run it for yourself looking for an unpleasant note.

I dont like la nuit at all personally.

    + Vanilla

This is the scent I wear for others as it is almost always overpowering for my nose and yet it never fails to garner positive reaction.

I really like the fragrance and didn't get any nasty smell from it...could it be a bad bottle? Give it a second chance in different conditions, it may show something else. Just my two cents...
"I love fragrances because they provide a sheer endless variety: there is a scent for every occasion, mood or feeling. Standing before my collection in the morning matching a perfume to my needs is one of the most enjoyable things in my day". I don't want to miss that

OMG! This so so weird! I haven't been on basenotes for about a month now, then on my lunch break I went to the mall and put La Nuit De L'homme on my skin for the very first time... Since then I keep getting whiffs of it and it smells AMAZING! Nothing groundbreaking but still very nice! Then I log on to basenotes for the first time in awhile and this is the first thread I see! I think this is gonna be a definite BUY for me! Wish it projected slightly better though

This scent is very pleasant when worn right. I purchased it a month ago and I must say it is a head turner.

The drydown is gorgeous, I don't understand why you're getting that smell.

What is it about this fragrance that people enjoy? It smells kinda cheap to me..not to be taken as an insult. But very synthetic and just not rich but almost attempting to be. I actually own it and I dont' like wearing it but do get compliments so not sure here

I don't like it either (or, the whole fragrance for that matter). I think the base is an overdose of tonka and/or coumarin with other woody notes. Smells cheap and grates on my nose.
