Default Just got Azzaro's Acteur............ROSE & MOSS is it?

not sure what to make of this

reviews here and elsewhere make this out to be a classic

Rose hits you right off then some other notes kick in soon after

I sorta get the "bug spray" effect but not ready to give it a thumbs down yet

any input on this Loris Azzaro concoction?

If you can't smell wood and spice, you likely will at some point if you keep going back to it, because they are very obvious. All bets are off if you have the reformulation, which I've come to really despise.

I picked it up as a bloke on Fragrantica said it was quite similar to Egoiste, and it's less than $30 on StrawberryNet.

I certainly don't see it as very similar to Egoiste, but it's by no means a bad rose fragrance. I like the mix of notes in it - it's mossy yet also fruity and sweet. Don't expect Turkish or Damascus rose absolute, but it's still pretty damn good for the price.
It's likely gone through reformulations over the years, but it's still a great hark-back to the masculine florals that have been lost in designer fragrance.
The longevity could be a little better, but I still get all day out of it.

Not a classic, but certainly one of the finest frags under $30. Deserves more recognition.

Just a very scent IMO. One of the better ones from this house.

The best imo. A very nice dry masculine rose, with a little spice (cardamom). At >$30 you'd be hard pressed to do much better.

I bought the vintage blind and still own it but I would not repeat the purchase. It is good, but nothing close to exceptional, IMO. I love most rose fragrances, but not really this one (my review on this site goes into better detail on my thoughts)...

I am still trying to get along with this masculine. It sorta rubs me the wrong way with the spice. But I love the rose accord in it. Its really moody on my skin. Sometimes it comes out as I want it, other times it borders on being a scrubber. Like others mention, give it some more time. I don't think it would have the appreciation it has on here if it wasn't any good. I am impressed that it was re-lauched.

I think Krizia Moods Uomo is somewhat similar and if I am not mistaken, they were released in the same year ( 1989?).
Seeking: Bottles/decants : of Feeling Man, Gucci pour Homme, Essence of John Galliano, Nicole Miller (vintage), Opium pour Homme, Oxford & Cambridge...etc.

Seeking decant/sample of Jil Sander Feeling Man, Cacharel Nemo, Bijan for Men EDC, Lanvin for Men, Giorgio VIP, Il Lancetti and other old school frags ....etc. I have samples to swap.

I would put Moods into the Giorgio for Men by GBH category, with strong patchouli and amber, while Acteur is something unique, though again I won't bother to discuss the nasty new formulation.

Vintage Acteur by Azzaro is fantastic. I've written a lot on this.

If you have the reformulation...it is fizzy and not nearly as warm, deep and enchanting.

One of, if not, my favorite scents from the house of Azzaro. And, that includes Vintage Azzaro Pour Homme - an absolute classic Aromatic Fougere...which says a lot.

    Cheers,

you gotta have balls to wear this. Everybody i show acteur says: "ohhh noooo, no way". It is utterly 80's in my view and i am gonna say it's one of the few scents i come across that i would never wear. Bold and feminine. Roses doesn't appeal to me...

    Hey voidvader -

My checklist (and I don't mean anything against you), as you are correct:

    Got Balls? Check.
80's? To me, it smells like something between Vintage and Niche
    Bold? Check.
Feminine? No. To me, very masculine - although the deep, brooding, boozy and wilted rose with oakmoss, leather and amber has the depth of a Feminine EdP Rose scent that my wife used to wear. However, the composition and accords are all different.
    Love Rose scents? Check.

I think if you saw it like this, you would love Vintage Acteur...or at least appreciate it. Without going into niche, one of the most amazing masculine rose scents available in Vintage formulation.

I do agree - not for everyone and even I am discerning when I wear this (and consider the occasion, people who will be there, etc.)

    Cheers,

    ericrico

I think the original version has "90%" on the front of the bottle but the new one doesn't have any percentage listed.

Note that I wore it last night and indeed there seems to be quite a bit of moss at first but even more than that, there is a very strong and astringent rose/geranium (not a powdery/floral rose), which can give me headaches. That takes an hour or a bit more to dissipate enough to allow the spicy/woody elements to really shine. So, give this one time, or if you can't, then you might want to just avoid it.

    Hey Ciprian -

Almost impossible to find, unless there is someone selling it privately where you are. Ebay is pretty much "THE" place to get it.

If you are ever in California - I'll give you a bottle...cheers, my friend! :-)

    Hi,

Recently I bought two 50 ml vintage bottles in Spain, the juice is terrific, in the same store I also found a big after shave bottle.

I never tried the reformulated version, but for me the original is a masterpiece.

Yes, do not buy reformulated, as it is too "synthetic," IMO. It would be interesting to know if anyone could recreate this scent so that it would be nearly identical to what it was.
