    Default Recommendation requested

Okay, so I'm pretty new to fragrances. My exposure has only been mass-markey stuff (Gucci, which I like, Cool Water, if that counts, CK1 etc.). I do know some frags I don't like (like Joop, I HATE Joop) and anything with Patchouli (I had a locker next to a girl who used Patchouli instead of showering in high school). I am from the Pacific Northwest, although currently live in New England and would love to find a fragrance that is reminiscent of growing up in the PNW. Is there anything out there that smells a bit of camping and/or the woods. I love pine, cedar and the smell of woodsmoke. I don't tend to like "sweet" scents and I don't want anything overpowering. Any ideas or suggestions from you experienced types? Thanks in advance!

I think the best place for you to start is probably with Comme des Garçons - they have a whole bunch of good unconventional conifer/pine-centered frags like Hinoki, Zagorsk and 3.

For campfire mood, nothing beats Profumum Arso and Honoré des Pres Chaman's Party - both heavily smoky vetivers.

Other options in the "wild west" category are D.S. & Durga Freetrapper, Tauer Lonestar Memories and Aramis classic New West.

For something with the pine/cedar mixed up with a bit more leather and birch, try Heeley's Cuir Pleine Fleur - or why not Chanel's legendary Cuir de Russie?...

Given the notes you enjoy, I highly recommend Mustang. I believe you would truly enjoy it. Woodsmoke, tobacco, lavender, cedar, a bit of lemon, etc. The notes are so well-crafted that you can smell the folds of the layers. If you try it and I am wrong, please let me know.

Some good suggestions. I'd just add Vetyver by L'Occitane and Norne by Slumberhouse (actually made in Portland).

Serge Lutens Fille en Aiguilles and Dior Granville are two others you might like.

Sonoma Scent Studios do a good line of resinous, smoky fragrances - Fireside Intense, Winter Woods.

ihateperfume's Burning Leaves, Fire from Heaven or Black March may be worth trying, too.

Alpha by the House of Matriarch from Seattle is what you want.

Halston z-14 may be adequate for your purposes though.

This is a good place to start. If you can find some, try Andy Tauer's fragrances. Also consider Comme de Garçons 2 man (smoky frankincense) and L'Artisan's Timbuktu.

If you can track it down, Gucci pour Homme (2003) is likely going to hit all your needs. It's nice, incense-laden, woodsy, smoky, but subtle and refined stuff.

Wow, thanks for all of the suggestions especially the variety in notes and price! Now....where to start? I currently have a "cart" FULL of samples @ Lucky Scent, is there a better way/website to get a chance to experience these frags?

Le Labo, Patchouli 24....I know, I know, Patchouli, but when I smell it, it smells like a fireplace to me. You should sample it. It's unique and wonderul, IMO.
