Default Which histoires de parfums to try?

I'm visiting a store later to day that stocks this house and would like suggestions as to which scents to try.
I've read the reviews in The Guide but I'm only interested in the masculine lines.

I'm also about to jump on a bottle from Histoires! With virtually no experience with their stuff, I really liked 1725 (a little generic, maybe, but that grapefruit is just gorgeous) and 1740 (wow).

1740 is perhaps the most classic masculine, with immortelle, tobacco, some leather. Very deep and long lasting. As mentioned above 1725 is a classic aromatic lavender. 1876 is a woody rose that's good for men too. And if you like aquatics, you can try the striking Petroleum (though I prefer Rosam, a classic oud-rose combo with a strange mineral note).

Agreed. Definitely do try Noir Patchouli, was really surprised how good this was, a sort of patchouli/minty/smokey/soft leather combo with a soft floral being introduced for drydown. I'd have a bottle of this before 1740 (though probably a bottle of 1740 not long after also )

Try to get a sample each `(even 1-2 ml would be great) from the whole line and test in leisure, one a day; clumping all their frags on a day will lead your nose into olfactory fatigue quite easily & lead to misjudged decisions.
1740 & Ambre 114 get my vote to try out ahead of all others, do try their newly released trio as well...

    Forget to mention:

HdP do a 6x 2ml vial sample set of your choice for €10 including delivery.

1740 - warm, resins, immortelle , cardamom if I recall correctly.
Petroleum If you can still find it
Patchouli Noir - I don't know why I still don't own this. Patchouli for the mild patchouli aficionado.

    for swap/sale:

I loved Petroleum and Noir Patchouli but thought that 1740 smelt like Bel Ami but more expensive. Knize Ten is a better leather all round.

1725 and 1828 are my favourites. 1740 has too much immortelle for my taste. The rest are more unisex than 'masculine' IMO.

    Congratulations on your decision.
It's a pretty solid line with the standouts being 1725, 1740, Ambre 114, 1969, and the superlative Noir Patchouli. 1828 doesn't do anything for me but you might enjoy it. The house style comes across as classical but never old fashioned, a difficult trick to pull imo. But of late their forays seem a little edgier & more adventurous. I don't care for their Scent of Departure series but do try the Rares and the Tuberose Trilogy.

I also liked Tubereuse 3 (its mentioned to be unisex but I think its more feminine than masculine).
I haven't got the chance to test the edition rare ones but you should do it if you'll find them there.

Try them all and see what you like. I (like others here) dig 1725, 1740 and A114. Let us know what you liked.

All I have tried from this house is 1740. I really enjoyed it. Reminds me of New Harlem, with more going on.
    My 3 Signature Scents:

    Rive Gauche Light (2004)
    Fahrenheit (1988)
    Paul Smith Man (2009)

Personally, not a very big fan of most of their offerings. However, Ambre 114 is one of the finest for sure.

I also think Veni is pretty good. The 3 new ones (Veni / Vidi / Vici) are far better than the 3 other releases of theirs last year from the Editions Rare collection (Ambrarem, Petroleum, Rosam).

    These would be my picks...

1740 - Pipe tobacco, leather, immortelle.
Petroleum - Civety, Oudy, Watery...a lot of juxtapositions. Quite Polarizing stuff.
Ambre 114 - Possibly the easiest amber to pull off.
Noir Patchouli - A leathery patch with a chyprey vibe...

    Thanks everyone.
The store was Roullier White and they had a limited line.
No ambre or patch noir. I had to have 1740 though. Great leather note and the immortelle is easier than Eau noir.
    Very happy.
I also got a sample of fougere Royale and I like it a lot.

Glad to hear you like it. I think it's a very fine example of a classic fougere.
