Ah, well I highly recommend sampling it because it is one of the very favorite tobacco fragrances of many here, including me.

It definitely comes closest to being what I want in a tobacco fragrance.

Fragrances that I have tried for the first time in 2017 and WOWed me:

Prada L'homme - Just loved it at first sniff (bought full bottle)
Valentino Uomo Intense - Just an incredible fragrance, really love the drydown, similar but not identical to DHI (bought full bottle)
Herod (Re-tried this again in 2017 and had to purchase full bottle). More wearable than TV.

I was the same with the first Two. Not so much Herod. I couldn't find the tobacco note and it didn't last very long on me!

Fat Electrician by Etat Libre d'Orange. I had read reviews that said it smelled like fennel, basil, or produce departments of a grocery store. I have not sampled vetiver much, and I have to say that I do like this one. I've had decent silage for most of the morning before it moved into a safe zone of about a foot, and closer to skin now. I am currently in the burnt wire phase of the dry down, and as one who once worked as an electrician, I really like this as odd as it may seem. This was a sample based upon recommendations here, basenotes. I definitely will purchase a bottle later in the month.

TF Noir Anthrecite and Zegna Indonesian Oud

the TF confused me as it was both brilliant and bad at the same time....it fills all of the criteria of being discontinued and a future classic, commanding high prices

    A*Men.

I know I'm 20 years too late but I avoided it for 2 reasons. Firstly my Manager at work from years ago used to wear Angel Women. She would overspray and it used to get right up my nose. Secondly I sampled this several years ago and hated the opening.

Anyway......Fast forward many years and after hearing many good reviews and being advised to wait for the dry down I gave it another go. Well.....Glad I did. I actually like the opening. It's sort of addictive. But the dry down is amazing. I actually prefer this one to Pure Malt as it's not as sweet. Very very nice!!!!!

Good on you for going back to it. For me, it’s a brilliant use of patchouli to give a very masculine backbone to some very nice gourmand notes. The patch diffuses the sweetness to give good balance as well.

It's remarkable how good that and Troisieme Homme are, especially for the price you can get each for!

Yes - I have owned 3e Homme for a while and it's another one that wowed me instantly, and was another blind buy too. I should probably try some other Carons sometime.

    Monsieur Carven.

Wore it for the first time last night, and wearing again today with enthusiasm.

I'm floating in a heavenly cloud of buttery leather, light powdery vanilla, and a dry and tight lavender/herbal accord - all underpinned by a perfectly judged civet foundation. The opening 10 minutes or so are a bit of a challenge. There's a certain "stale" note that just shy of coming across like body odor - likely the civet battling with the herbal/citrus fireworks before it settles into its habitat and starts purring. Monsieur evolves dramatically from there, sorting itself in a dry but plush old school spicy/powdery/leather structure that's feels somewhere in the middle of Habit Rouge, Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur, Aramis, Jicky, and maybe Eau d'Hermes.

It is SO good and easy to wear. If you like civet and classic pillowy leathers, or old school powdery barbershop scents at all, please try it! It's discontinued, but available in vintage form at very reasonable prices.

Thanks to FreeWheelin for the sample . I have found a new favorite - feels good to be on a sampling hot streak!

    Tauer AT Attar.
This is a true chamaeleon. Still exploring what it does. It's an oud scent but not a Montale/Mancera type. It is ambery-fruity-floral-castoreum in a similar way as Maxim's pour Homme. Dries down creamy jasminic sandal-vanilla. It stays close but it is hellishly strong and enveloping. Will have a nice winter season with this gorgeous mini bottle.

Finally (!!!) was able to find a decant of the one at the top of my to try next list, and in this case it delivered big time!! I'll be ordering a bottle after my decant if it stays this way:

    - Davidoff Leather Blend

Bitter, dry and green-ish from a blend of papyrus and rose giving a kind of waxy feeling to a smooth, brown suede like leather and with just a touch of sweetness, barely. Classy as hell.
