Default Yohji Homme relaunch, a potential disappointment?

    This news just in:
    http://www.basenotes.net/content/166...edium=facebook

It appears that all the relaunched Yohji Yamamoto scents, including Yohji Homme, have been 'reworked', i.e. reformulated.

From the way the article was written, it seems as if the notes have become different.
    "Yohji Homme
Yohji Yamamoto's first fragrance for men. Yohji Homme, appeals to the urban denizen and casual nomad in all of us. Black inspired with cardamom, bergamot, and coffee notes that precede a hint of rum, cedarwood and leather, delivering a sophisticated spiced bliss."

Would this be a disappointment after all?

What a gem the original was! The notes sound about right, if it comes close to the original it'll gurantee a purchase from me.

That's amazing news. Luca Turin will be glad to hear it. Who knows if it will smell as good with the current raw material restrictions, but who knows. The original Yohji for women is also excellent. Made by Jean Kerleo (Patou pour Homme) when he was about to leave Patou. The first two Yohjis were made Patou. Kerleo most likely had a lot of input on Yohji Homme as well. It's a paragon of blending.

    Pyramid for Yohji Homme:

    Lavender, Bergamot, Coriander, Anise, Sage
Rosewood, Cinnamon, Carnation, Licorice, Geranium, Iris
Cedar, Sandalwood, Vetiver, Tonka Bean, Rum, Leather, Coffee, Oakmoss, Amber, Musk

I absolutely love vintage Yohji Homme... If the re-release is even 90% as good as the original it will be absolutely great. Fingers crossed...

Reading the notes for the relaunch, it seems as if the reworked version might move away from the gourmand fougère of the original formulation, and towards a more generic spicy woody leather. Well, we will see. Definitely worth a try, but I do fear the worst.

Withholding judgment until I can try it....been waiting for this one. I think my decant of the original has a little teeny bit left to compare.

There is hope out there. The original has been on my radar for months now and cant seem to find a break on the price. The notes sound outstanding and cannot wait to get my nose on this one even more.

do you know if the manufacturer remains the same?... i personally don't worry much, having two vintage 50ml. YH is No 4 on my top list. well, my No 2 was relaunched... amazingly retaining the notes,... but absolutely horrible, cheap juice, not good for even 'dollar general'. like a grotesque, ugly version of the original. different manufacturer though. hope the same wont happen with YH

I'll pick it up no matter what. Reformulations can be disappointing but in most cases are better than a lot of other stuff that's out there. Dior Homme and Fahrenheit for example.

That's certainly interesting. I've been trying to get rid of my Yohji Homme for months at a drastically lower price than all of them on ebay. Then the other day, I took it back out, decided to give it a wear for the day...yeah I'm keeping it now. Really enjoyed it.

I have the original and it does smell good, but was only ever good for three or four hours on me. A reformulation may be an improvement.

I thought that the case when they reformulated Guerlain's Vetiver a dozen years ago, and its longevity was increased.

I'm sure it'll be good. My only fear is that it'll be less "full" smelling than the original. That's usually the case with reformulations, eg. M7, Dior Homme, Chergui, etc.

I'm sure they will be great. I think this relaunch purpose is not to make a quick buck but to revive those fantastic perfumes created by JM Duriez!

I like the sound of the new one better, actually, since anisic scents are not my thing. I never understood the appeal of YH, other than thinking of it as a non-crude anisic gourmand with lavender (most lavender gourmands are quite crude to me).

Fingers grossed indeed. The original is one of the most satisfying and balanced fragrances I have ever tried, magical combination of fantastic classical fougere base with some ingenious and slightly bitter gourmand notes. In general I'm not into gourmands, so I find this to be quite an accomplishment. I bought this blind mostly based on pluran's hype. Thanks pluran, you have a nose I can trust.

    If that makes sense.

I'm looking forward to this relaunch, and would love it if this became part of a new trend and several other of the greatest male scents that unfortunately went belly up were made available again.

Smelled it a week ago. Excellent work. A tad drier and thinner than the original, but still a towering masterpiece.
