Default Green Irish Tweed, Millisime Imperial or Aventus?

The Aventus I tried at the department store was smokey with only bits of pineapple in the background; I was hoping for pineapple to be the dominant note.. Although I understand that Aventus differs with batches. True?

    Loved GIT and MI.

My current humble collection consists of L'eau D'Issey Pour Homme (my everyday) and Burberry Touch.

Which of these would compliment them well?

Default Re: Green Irish Tweed, Millisime Imperial or Aventus?

L'eu D'Issey is sort of an aquatic. Burberry Touch is a very powdery scent to me. I think all three you mentioned would be quite different. If I were to own a Creed, it would be GIT. Certainly Creed's most "important" scent to date, and something out of which you'd get a ton of use.

Taking into account the climate you live in MI is the obvious choice IMO. MI really sparkles in hot weather.
Hard work never killed anyone, but why risk it?

Personally, with your collection, I think Aventus is probably the most dissimilar, and probably the best addition.

Talk of batches aside, Aventus is meant to be more smoky vanillic patchouli with some fruity accents. If you want a pineapple-dominant scent with a little wood support, you could try Zara Man Gold (or the older version of Zara Gold). It's much much cheaper, and less prone to the batch variation madness.

+1 to what he said. Maybe I'm just not a fan of Aventus.

GIT and MI are both worth owning IMO, but GIT is the one I voted for and would personally choose if I only could have one. Aventus is a definite pass for me.

Aventus. Talk of batches is overblown. It still gives off the same vibe from a far. If you want to bury your nose into your skin like a hound and investigate, you might see small difference but yo others around you there is none. Projection and longevity are very good.

I just don't like the smell of Aventus, period.

That leaves GIT and MI. Both great scents. I live in a tropical climate, and find I wear MI more as a result. That's my suggestion.

Further, and this is just my personal opinion, but GIT has more clones that smell closer to it, while nothing smells like a good batch of MI. Love and Luck and Unforgivable are sometimes mentioned, but they are NOT close (though Love and Luck isn't a terrible scent in its own right).
    Current Top Five:

    1. Creed Green Irish Tweed
    2. Tom Ford Neroli Portofino
    3. Hermes Concentre d'Orange Verte
    4. Bond No. 9 New Haarlem
    5. Creed Original Vetiver

This is an age-old story, but given that I have now had the chance to own all three, my opinion is that you too will also own all three at some point. I have all three now and couldn't see myself without them.

Millesime is the definitive summer scent, GIT the Spring/Autumn scent and Aventus is just great all year round. I would definitely rank GIT third here, with very little between Aventus and MI. In fact, my opinion might vary depending on mood.

The post by comfortablynumbbg has already said what I was going to about Aventus so I just want to reiterate that. Don't expect a pineapple bomb from this scent. It's only a top note in an Eau de Parfum and Roja Dove explains this as follows in his Haute Parfumerie magazine (on p.29):

The TOP of an EdP is 40% of the fragrance. This "goes after a few minutes".
The HEART of an EdP is 30% of the fragrance. This "goes after 2-4 hours".
The BASE of an EdP is 30% of the fragrance. This is "left to last all day".

Love Aventus & GIT. Not a fan of MI at all really.

Personally I would recommend getting Aventus out of the 3, but as soon as you do, you should start saving up for GIT (or Bond No. 9 Chez Bond, which is very similar, but with a bit of a tea note, which I really like).

I love the notes listed in MI, and I love the genre, but all I get from MI is salt water, bleach, and lemon. One of the few fragrances I would classify as a scrubber. But most people seem to really love it.

I've got plans on getting Aventus and MI. Those and Virgin Island Water are probably going to be my next three Creed pickups. But the one I had to get first and the one that I really do think that every serious collector needs is Green Irish Tweed. Especially with Spring coming up, to me it's a no brainer.

How about a discount bottle of GIT and a decant of Aventus?

For your collection, Green Irish Tweed is best. I don't know a damn thing about Burberry Touch, but L'Eau d'Issey is bright in the same way that Aventus is. GIT offers you the most diversity.

I'd definitely choose Aventus between those three. And that smoky/ashy birch note is actually my favorite part of Aventus. (I really loved that strong 2010 ashy batch that I bought as my first Aventus sample from Perfumed Court).

Well personally I always interpreted Aventus as smokey pineapple, cause when I sniff it on me that's what I get in my personal proximity, though the pineapple part is very apparent in the beginning, and later on even I have trouble pinpointing exactly what it smells like, but it's smoky and nice and "green." Surprisingly when I've been complimented by others no one has really said pineapple or natural. As a matter of fact a few people have told me it's synthetic smelling which I kind of get (due to fruity smokiness aspect).

People have trouble describing this scent (regular people not scent heads). One thing that I've noticed is uniform when people describe the smell as "green" on me. Now GIT people have told me flat out makes me smell like grass, and is not really well received by anyone around me, which subsequently has waned my liking for that frag. Aventus just gives off an apparent "beautiful smell, sort of green." However others interpret it, doesn't matter, just smells good. I'll definitely say it is a bigger hit with the older crowd, younger people (18-21) around me are not praising it nearly as much as the older folks I am around, though there are some young people that dig this on me.

I don't even know why, but I always find myself rooting for GIT in these Creed "vs" polls. I just find myself saying in my head, "Come on ol' boy, you can do it! Just pull out one more victory!".

    Same department store.

  34. #34

Default Re: Green Irish Tweed, Millisime Imperial or Aventus?

Odd indeed. I always felt MI to be a little strange anyway. It has been described as an aquatic, but to me, it does not feel like an aquatic becauseo of the warm amber/ambergris base that a lot of Creeds have. Instead, it's a very beautiful, radiant floral fruit (which I believe is a combination of the citrus and iris to give an illusion of melon). For all the comparisons to aquatics (some reviewers, for example, hold Acqua di Gio as its closest clone), it is quite unique.

I believe all three are wearable in Singapore (I own all three), and have received compliments on the MI and Aventus, even though I wear scents for myself and not to attract attention.

GIT is classic, no doubt, does get confused by the masses as Cool Water.

Maybe try it for a few more times. From what I have been reading about Creed, new bottles tend to smell a little off, and will settle down after a bit of time.

The poor longevity is quite normal for Millésime Impérial, unfortunately.

Creeds change from day to day so one day it will last 3 hours and the next day it will last 12 hours. Just keep wearing it and you will see. I cant smell most Creeds after about 2 minutes but MI usually lasts about 8 hrs on me.
