Default Terre d'Hermes - Does this look genuine?

    Hi,
I came across an advertisement in my city's local OLX.
    Here is the ad:

    http://newdelhi.olx.in/terre-d-herme...-iid-457897809

    (Price: Around $50 USD <-- 1USD = 50 Indian Rupees roughly)
I talked to the owner on phone. Here is the conversation:

Me: When did you purchase it?
Him: 1st July, 2012. I have the original bill with me. And the box.

Me: Where did you store it?
    Him: In a wooden cupboard.

Me: How much did you use it?
Him: It's around 95% full. (Please see the pic in the advertisement)

Me: Why are you selling it?
Him: I need money. (This answer really caught my attention, because the ad was posted 4 months ago. I wonder if he's telling the truth that he STILL needs the money)

Me: If I consider buying it from you, can I be assured of longevity?
Him: You can'st spray it, because then it will be wasted. You can obviously smell it.

My question - Does the product look genuine? And what to make of this conversation?

The box lot # matches the bottle lot # that is always a good sign. I don't see anything grossly different from known genuine bottles...the really big unanswered question is how was is stored...If in India and it was HOT it could have lost some of it's top notes, but even that isn't a really big deal if you get a good price. You said he won't let you smell it??? That would concern me. If he is close enough that you could pick it up, offer him a few rupees to spritz once on your arm...before you buy.

    Diogenes65, thanks for the reply.
As the bill says, it was bought around 9 months back.
He said he stored it in a closed cupboard.

I'm thinking on the same lines. If I decide to go ahead with this seller, I will ask him to let me spray 1-2 sprays.
But how do I move ahead then? Do I ask him wait for one day so that I can test the longevity of the fragrance?
The point is that I'd have to meet him to examine all this. And he would be looking to close the deal fast.
Is there a sure shot way (other than spraying) of telling if the fragrance is genuine?

See no fakery signs, and the conversation didn't strike me as particularly unusual.

Who knows about storage when you buy from a private individual? It's a chance you take. Most sellers will probably not want to be bothered with inquiries about whether you can spray it and wait a day -- that's kind of a hassle. But if it hasn't sold in several months and he needs the money, maybe he'll be receptive.

Looks fine to me. I just find it odd that he doesn't want you to spray it. A spray or two won't hurt the amount of juice left, IMO. Good luck!

I wonder how he used %5 of the bottle since he is so afraid to spray it. Maybe he rubbed the bottle to his wrists and neck to get some fragrance on him.

So I met the seller, and he let me spray it.
It smelled exactly like I'd smelled the genuine one in a mall.
Upon inspecting the bottle myself, I found no signs of it being a fake one. It all looked genuine, and the box and the bill only added to my belief.

So I negotiated the price with him and bought it. Got a good deal - Around $46 for 50 ml 95% full. (Considering how high prices here in India are!)

I could still smell it the next morning on my skin. Wow, wonderful stuff!
Really happy and satisfied with my purchase.

    Thank you guys!
