Default Which designer fragrance to buy for this summer?

I am looking to add a designer fragrance to my collection. I want something to where in the hot summer days.
I want something that is a "crowd pleaser", versatile, and can be worn in an office environment. It doesn't have to be unique. I was thinking something minty, citrusy, or aquatic.

Here is what I was thinking of buying:
    1) D&G Light Blue for men. Tested before and it smelled good but light
    2) Blue de Chanel. Smells good but I don't know about the incense note.
    3) Acqua Di Gio: Had in back in the day (1997ish). Good safe fragrance.
    4) Guerlain Homme: Smelled at a fragrance counter awhile ago. Can't remember smell but I know it was good but not long lasting.
    5) YSL Live Jazz: Never smelled it.

    Edited:
I also forgot that I was thinking of Chanel Allure Edition Blanche also

    2nd Edit:
I always liked L'Eau D'Issey BUT it was too strong for me. I just sprayed the lighter Sport version and I like it much better. This got me thinking.
What do you all think about L'Eau D'Issey Summer (Edition 2012)? I think I either want this or Guerlain Homme.

    1) Never tried this one, so can't comment
    2) I'm with you about the incense note. Bleu starts out nice enough for me, but for some reason the incense just sticks out on me and lasts forever (guess it doesn't help that I'm not a fan of incense). It's because of that incense that it's not a "summer" frag for me.
    3) Always a good, safe summer fragrance if you like it.
    4) Seems to fit your description best (citrus & mint). Just picked up a bottle of it myself and am very excited to have it for this spring & summer. Also looking for a bottle of their Homme L'eau which is supposed to be even better in heat.
    5) Starts out with wonderful, bright citrus & some mint, but lately the cilantro note has just become far too overpowering, sharp & sour for me.

    +1

    1) since u don't care if it's generic or not, it's ok.
    2) i wouldn't use BdC when it's above +30C degrees.
    3) same as 1.
    4) it's fine but i'd rather L'Eau than GH
    5) keep out of live jazz if u don't know what rhubarb smells like!

Voted for YSL Live Jazz. Bleu de chanel is fantastic but the incense note is great for colder weather!

I voted for the Guerlain, but I actually would suggest Eau D´Hadrien.

That would be my recommendation then.

Bleu is great. As is AdG. But EB is a tiny bit above IMO. Not as versatile as Bleu, maybe not as universally loved as AdG, but in the summer months, nothing beats this one.

Voted Homme, but try Guerlain L'Homme L'Eau Boisée too, it's very good.

Honestly, Light Blue is the weakest of the bunch.

Acqua Di Gio, Live Jazz and Bleu De Chanel are all good.

Another fragrance I would recommend for the summer is Versace Man Eau Fraiche.

  13. #13

Default Re: Which designer fragrance to buy for this summer?

    Guerlain Homme from that list.

I think Live jazz is a touch more interesting and a less used than the others.
I wouldn't blind buy it though.

From this list, Live Jazz, with Bleu and Guerlain Homme almost equivalently sharing the second place.

Voted for Bleu but would also recommend Chanel Allure Edition Blanche.

Any of those besides light blue. It's not terrible, but I would choose many other fragrances besides that one. The guerlain I just sampled not too long ago, and that's the one I voted for. I haven't been able to check out the flankers (L'eau, intense, or L'eau boisee) so I can't comment on those. Although they are all on my sample list

Also. While checking around I noticed a new L'eau dissey summer 2013 just was released. So if you were thinking about the 2012 then maybe check out 2013. Otherwise I would go with guerlain

You say L'eau D'Issey is too strong, so that rules out Bleu as my recommendation (strong stuff). Of the others in the poll I like Acqua di Gio the most and really it's the quintessential summer fragrance.

I'd go with Bleu or Guerlain Homme.

Can't tell you just one as my preference varies from day to day.

I'd pick Acqua di Gio or Bleu de Chanel.

Light Blue is a bad AdG copy, Guerlain Homme didn't do wonders for me, and Live Jazz reminds me of a catbox.

Voted Live Jazz - good bang for buck and certainly the most interesting option IMO. I also acknowledge and understand Acqua di Gio's popularity even if it doesn't float my boat, and it would definitely fit all the requirements. Wouldn't entertain any of the others.

I'd go with either Bleu de Chanel or AdG. Although my personal favorite is Live Jazz, I feel it is too light for Summer. It has a slight cooling sensation from the spearmint, which works perfectly for the Spring.
    My 3 Signature Scents:

    Rive Gauche Light (2004)
    Fahrenheit (1988)
    Paul Smith Man (2009)

I voted Guerlain Homme, but of those five frags you listed, I only own Bleu. Bleu and ADG are both good choices as they're versatile crowd pleasers and good in the heat. It's been awhile since I knowingly smelled D&G Light Blue, but what I remember is I didn't like very much. Have you considered Dior Homme Sport or Dior Homme Cologne? I've got the original DHS and DHC and really like both of them. Dior is about to release (or maybe they already have released) a new version of Homme Cologne, of which I'm likely to geta bottle. Another one to consider is Perry Ellis Red 360. You can pick that up on the cheap at TJMaxx or Ross and it reminds me a lot of ADG. Another that I like and consider to be a versatile crowd pleaser that I reach for often during the warmer months is YSL's L'Homme. But of everything you have listed, and everything else I mentioned, I'd recommend the original Dior Homme Sport. Love that stuff.

I tried Cartier Declaration Soir and it is a great all season if you like rose for men.

Thanks for the suggestions Shiny Beast.
I like the opening of L'Homme and even purchased it once but I don't like the dry down as much so I returned it.
I haven't smelled Perry Ellis 360 Red in awhile so I will check that out.
DHS I used to really like and almost bought. Recently I got a sample of the new and old and I am not sure if I like it as much as I used to. Maybe I will wear it today again.
    Thanks

    Default Summer frag

I've worn Chanel Allure Blanche in the summer. Lovely smell. Not overpowering but a great citrus frag.

From your list, none. You might wanna try Tiffany for Men Sport -- it's Jacques Polge's better and less synthetic version of Bleu de Chanel.

ADG is always good, but a huge crowd pleasure for me (and super cheap online) is Chrome original.

    Guerlain Homme

I think you might change your mind about the longevity.

I used to think the lasting power was only so so. But after wearing it more than a few times, I changed my mind.
After the first one or two hours it does sit rather close to the skin. But when your body heats up it comes alive again. There could be some olfactory fatigue going on as well. I get eight to nine hours out of it on average.

May I suggest something not in your list? Please check out Hommage a L'Homme Lalique, spicy woody tobacco. Promise won't break your bank and ladies love it and you won't smell like others. Cheers
