Default Yesterday and Today: CAPUCCI pour Homme (from 1967)

    CAPUCCI pour Homme

One of the best, yet underrated fragrances for Men, since 1967.
One of the best examples of "drastic reformulations" without ruining too much the scent.
One of the cheapest frags ever, and still the best quality/price ratio.

The Modern Capucci is quite different from the Vintage one, but both version are REALLY pleasant.

VINTAGE CAPUCCI: Some lemon in an ocean of marvelous Oakmoss, Musk, and Leather.
MODERN CAPUCCI: The Triumph of Citruses in every vibrations, with an infinite longevity.

    Top notes:
    bergamot, amalfi lemon, lime, basil and anise;
    Middle notes:
    lavender, cyclamen, fruity notes, jasmine;
    Base notes
musk, patchouli, oakmoss, amber, incense, tobacco and leather.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED BOTH VERSIONS try to find both!

Pictures of Modern (All Lemon) box and bottle

NOTE in the Modern bottle, "CAPUCCI" is embossed in the glass, not printed.

On the bottom: "Roberto Capucci Parfums" (vintage is DIFFERENT)

NOTE the embossed cap in modern bottle (Vintage cap is smooth)

Pictures of the VINTAGE (Musk Leather Oakmoss) box and bottle

On the Bottom: "CAPUCCI PARIS FRANCE"

NOTE the Smooth cap without RC lettering

Lettering is NOT embossed, but printed, on the vintage bottles

Confrontation between bottles: the modern one has DARKER and BIGGER cap

VINTAGE juice is MORE INTENSE than Modern one.

OP's similar threads are really useful resources for true lovers and seekers of the classics. Knowledge of the differences in the details highlighted above is very useful when confronted with bottles "in the flesh". Thanks for the education.

Agree, Weruska unfortunately sucks as a frag maker.

Totally agree with perfaddict and Marais - excellent threads and great photos! Thanks for taking the time to post these. I have the modern Capucci (bought whilst visiting the island of Capri) and it will forever have associations of this beautiful place. I love its mediterranean vibrancy and sunny optimism - a happy scent for me.

More of these excellent insights into the classics please...!

Andre, I really appreciate the contribution you make to the forum !

I have wondered about a blind buy with Capucci. I remember Hirsh Duckfinder singing its praises a few years back. I may go for a vintage if I can find it. Thanks for sharing

    UPDATE:
here is a bottle from the Nineties: during the '90 the bottles had the RC logo embossed on the glass

    THE STICKER IS DIFFERENT, TOO.

    UPDATE
Here is a rare "atomizer" (not natural spray) , second half of Seventies. In those years (before 1980), sprays were rarely used.

I'm resurrecting this thread because I bought a bottle of this blindly when I saw it at a discount. I have the modern packaging. The bottom is slightly different, no ingredients, just parfum; it does have the website of veruschka, which means it cannot be too old. The bottle inside is what Andre calls 90s, that is it has the RC logo on the bottle. For what it's worth, the juice is not transparent, but slightly green, as in the old bottle above.

I tried it on today. Very lemony top, and citrusy. There is more than lemon, though, it does have a chypre base, although not as good as CpM. But today is extremely hot and humid, so it's probably not the right day to try a perfume. I'll check again.

An old friend of mine bought this to his son and told me very good things about it. Need to find one to try.

Great scent and one that I truly love in vintage form. The newer release smells excellent, but it lacks longevity, The vintage has a solid oakmoss base that gives this citrus incredible depth and body.

My preferred wearing is 2-3 sprays of vintage on my skin and 1-2 shots of the newest formulation on my shirt. The newest version is very top note centric, so spraying this on clothing prolongs the experience. This isn't a powerhouse, but falls well into the "charming" category.

A similar scent is Homme de Gres. This one is very similar but it swaps a bit of citrus for a more herbal feel. To my nose, I believe this is accomplished by basil, terragon and possibly an eyelash of sage. Great scent and every bit as good as Capucci, if your into herbal-citrus chypres.
I have found the paradox, that if you love until it hurts, there can be no more hurt, only more love.

I think you meant "compare." In Italian, compare is confrontare, so I can see how that mistake was made. I wouldn't want to think there's going to be a "ultimate fight" between those two bottles! LOL.

I noticed a flanker called L'Homme Sauvage or something like that. There are only a few reviews but they all complain of next to zero longevity. Anybody tried that one?

The only thing I've heard is it is similar to Dior's Eau Sauvage. Contemplating a blind buy of Capucci L'Homme Sauvage . Any info would be greatly appreciated!
