Thumbs up Re: SOTD Thursday 21st March 2013

Have I told you about the scent of jasmine? Have I spoken about the smell of the sea? The earth is scented. And I perfume myself to enhance what I am. That's why I can not wear a perfume that bothers me. Perfuming is an instinctive wisdom. And like all art, it requires some knowledge of yourself..."

Happiness belongs to you today, Kiliwia! Yay!

I wish all our BN family good health and comfort. I know such things be ellusive.

Tomorrow starts my 4-day, home-alone stay-cation and scent sampling. Will be more chatty when the family has hopped a plane for Connecticut.

For now, I'm in a really odd rut with Bond No. 9 for Mothers. What am I doing reaching for this scent over and over?

Oh, Kiliwia, what wonderful news and what a relief! Some kind of celebration is definitely in order

G, you (and/or the blogger) described it perfectly: I agree that Dries Van Noten feels strangely distant/bereft of soul. It's not that it smells *thin*, but it somehow lacks connection, it just sits on my skin and never properly becomes part of me. You've nailed it. Well done.

I'm thumbing my nose at this weather (cold, overcast, snow forecast) and wearing Arquiste Boutonniere No. 7, a spicy but otherwise well-behaved greenish gardenia. You can feel it tugging at the reins, so to speak, but it's tightly controlled. The fragrance executes the concept (a gardenia boutonniere worn at the opera by men in bergamot and lavendar colognes) very well: the gardenia is never allowed to overpower. It's a single bloom, constrained by the buttonhole. Really well done, I think. Jon, given our shared appreciation for Aleksandr, I think you'll like this one, too, if you like gardenia.

Givenchy Ysatis from a mini, have had this for ages and never really worn it - so far it's soapy & astrigent.

Your assessment is bang on . I was very impressed when I briefly sniffed it a while back and promised myself I'd revisit - may well be doing so this weekend actually if all goes to plan.

Dior Addict for me this evening.

lt's been wet & windy all day here, & now they're predicting more snow for parts of the UK tonight! Yep, this really is "the winter that won't quit".

I'm off for the next four days to watch basketball! But I'm taking time out from the games this afternoon to go get my hair cut. I'm thinking of something very different for me, but will probably chicken out and go safe. I'm wearing Cuir de Lancome. I wanted something with some confidence, but not Bandit-like confidence. LOL Who knows how my hair would turn out with Bandit?!

Kiliwia, great news! I'm very happy for you.

    Hugs for all ...

Lol! Good luck shades - I'm sure whatever you decide on will be quite fetching!

    Have fun, shades!

The arrival of several packages today has provided me with samples to luxuriate in. I had to move one batch, still sealed in their bags, away from my desktop just now so as not to confuse my nose.

On my left wrist 25 minutes ago I dabbed a sample of the newly-released Aqua Allegoria Nerolia Bianca.

So far, it's very citrus-orangey, and is reminding me of Bond No. 9 Little Italy (except that I think it's a little sweeter) rather than orange blossom or neroli. But we shall see how it develops.

    Edit:
Luminous, makes me think it has aldehydes -- I think maybe that is where the "bianca" ("white") comes in.

Has some similarities with Lancôme Ô de L'Orangerie but I'm not smelling musk.

It's a bit too sweet/loud for me sniffed up close, but I noticed when I stepped out of my car to enter the library an hour ago, I could smell it in the air all around me-- just from the dab on my hand. And it was nice.

What really great news Kiliwia. You must be feeling very relieved today. Well done!

Mike, that O&C was one of my two last parcels that I posted before the new UK posting restrictions kicked in . So, I am chuffed to bits that you are enjoying it! But sad, because I can't share any more.

I succumbed today....... Armani Privé Rose D'Arabie.

I'm sampling Robert Piguet Mademoiselle Piguet this evening. Orange blossom is often a tricky note for me (lots of vinyl shower curtain accord), but I *really* like this. It's just very pretty.

Dior Addict: I bought it on impulse the other day at the mall, and I'm growing to love it.
