Default Givenchy Insense - how to identify original vintage ?

    Hello all,

I am thinking of buying a bottle of Insense by Givenchy. I am wondering if anyone can tell me how to identify the original vintage formulation ? Looking on eBay, all the bottles look the same, but the box design is slightly different, mainly in the size and background of the "4G" square logo. Some examples below :

Are either of these the vintage formulation ?

    Thanks in advance.

I don't know which came first, but everything in the "Amarige" bottle (slightly round) is vintage and excellent. The ones I have are like the second pic (though the box says vaporisateur).

Then came a more squarish bottle, though you see it rarerly; I have not smelled it, but I heard it's ok. Finally, it appeared in the mithique series; I have not smelled this version. Btw, as you well know, be careful of stock photos on ebay, they need not correspond to the actual bottle. In the case of insense, though, most of what's around is the original one, later ones had limited distribution.

Don't know how to identify it. Only know that I got it when it was first released.

To my understanding both of those pictures are first release bottles. That's what I have and I really really enjoy the scent

The second auction is vintage but the first one may just be using a vintage stock picture.

Many thanks to all respondents. I do appreciate your time.

As this is classified as a floral, would it smell similar to Dior Homme ?

    Thanks

No, not at all like Dior Homme. The flower in Dior homme is iris, which is rooty and barely flower-like, and in any case it's only a part of the whole gourmand-tobacco-fruit combo. Insense is a true floral, more precisely a green floral (more narcissus), but very butch, with a slightly herbaceous, almost dry tobacco type of feel. I love it, but evidently it didn't do well in the market. If you like green notes or herbal type of scents, you should be ok.

It really does not smell similar to Dior Homme at all, but the most common criticisms of both scents are the same i.e. that some people feel the scents are too "feminine". I believe with Dior Homme it is because of its strong iris note, a floral but a very specific floral scent that is only slightly present in Insense.

Insense, as someone already said, is a very green floral, where Dior Homme is sort of an Iris slowly blending into a cocoa and leather thing. I have both. Two of my favorite scents. I don't find them feminine, just beautiful.

Thanks again gents - much appreciate your time.

I checked in my 2010 copy of "Fragrances Of The World", and Insense is categorized with a whole lot of niche fragrances, and I don't know much about any of them.

I don't have too much of an issue with blind buys - kind of thrilling in a small way. If I can find one that's not too expensive, I might just take the plunge.

To ME, Insense smells a lot like Odeur 71.

    Hello Paul,
I have just opened a new thread about Insensé, sorry i didn't see yours first.. i'm pretty new to this forum
I tried yesterday the original Insensé, and it's amazing , what a wonderlfull fragrance.

By the way, this is the original(i guess) the one i've got : http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Insense-G...item5ae40521be- absolutlely superb
But i'm worry that any edition of Insensé is now out of production, and this is a huge shame...

P.s it has nothing to do with Dior, its' a fresh floreal scent
