Default Do you share a kind of olfactory complicity/bond with one or more basenoters?

    Hello everyone!
I'm just curious to know how many of us and to what extent we can rely or trust somebody else opinion/judgement when it comes to scents. I mean, not just technically-wise: it's more about having (almost ) the same taste, to the extent that it really matters to you.
    Yes? No? Sometimes?
I personnally have this kind of connection with two members. I must admit to having had one or two disappointments after a blindbuy based on their reviews
Ps. No need to give names, but why not?
    Cheers!

Sometimes yes. There are a few that have been around since I started that seem to have the same feelings towards enjoying designers despite un/popularity, etc. I seem to always trust their opinion.

Yes, in the sense that I will put more credence in the reviews/comments of a member that shares similar likes/wardrobe.

I don't have a little black book or anything though...

Voted for it happens, since some of the notes groups, fragrance houses, fragrance styles I happen to enjoy are not disliked on Basenotes either, as well as some of the specific fragrances I own and/or like.

foetidus' reviews tend to be very useful, not because we have the same taste but because they are pretty objective and descriptive. i haven't found a scent twin though

It certainly happens. I voted for that. I find connections with fellow Basenoters either around a specific scent or maybe a realm of scent and we share our subjective perspectives - often learning from one another and realizing how much our taste is the same.

    And, at times, the opposite.

It is part of what makes this passion unique and interesting. It is to each of us, our own taste. Finding commonality with other like-minded individuals increases contributions and sharing within the community - a feeling of 'strength in numbers'. That is when Basenotes is special...but we should always remain open-minded to different opinions that don't support ours.

    Cheers,

    ericrico

My tastes can be grouped 3 ways.
For Citrus I trust the opinions of Ken_Russell and Mrclmind.
For bitter green frags Dullah is your man to go to.
For Orientals, particularly ones that are powdery, spicy or Patch heavy... I've not yet found my "nose buddy".

Not completely but there are certain posters who's taste comes close to mine on certain styles of scents so I'm particularly keen to read their opinions.

thebeck and many members on BN have an impeccable taste in fragrances,

however, thebeck recommendations for me are always spot on

thebeck and i are like twin brothers

It's like one of those venn diagrams - I lock in with a few people on specific styles or genres but can't say there is any one person whose tastes mirror my own . . . that I'm aware of, anyway.

Interesting concept. If BN can implement something similar to Amazon recommends and match it based on scent preference.
