Default What's the Best Bay Rum -For the Buck?

My father loves bay rum . He uses it as aftershave, but he has only one bottle, which I brought from the US with me a few years back.

Could you guys recommend me the best bay rum in the market? I don't want to buy the most expensive one, please understand me. I want the best cost/benefit. Plase make only one suggestion per person. Thanks for the help.

I agree with Hednic, Taylor's is very good and can be bought inexpensively, at least in the UK.

That's funny! ^ I don't have any Bay Rum but I've always enjoyed the scent. I think it might be one of those things that no household should be without. And I agree, it shouldn't be expensive.

I don't think they ship internationally, but the best BR I've tried (out of about 20) is Captain's Choice, based in Illinois.

It doesn't use cloves, so it's unique in that regard, but the heady mix of aromas in there cause some people to swear it contains clove. I love the stuff, and will be buying more when I head to the States later in the year.

St Johns (out of the West Indies) does a great range of BR colognes, where BR is mixed with either lavender, grapefruit or the obligatory lime. Those two brands are my favourites, but Ogallalla is still very good (especially the BR, sage and cedar).

International shipping restrictions have queered the pitch for us bay rum fans. The very best I have tried is Gilbert Henry Bay Rum. Delicious, natural-smelling, and relatively long-lasting.
Back to the OP: if Taylor's is hard to source, Dominica Bay Rum is quite similar.

Dominica Bay Rum is my absolute fave Bay Rum. I have Clubman Virigin Island bay rum, Hawleywood's Bay Rum, and a couple others, but Dominica is the best IMHO.

+1 on the Dominica Bay Rum - not too sweet or clove-y like so many of the others.

I don't like clovey Bay Rums, but I love Bay Rum (and tobacco) notes. For example, Aramis Havana and C&S Cuba are 2 of my all-time favorite scents.

I've experimented with a bunch (but not all) bay rums. For the buck, I like Aubrey Organics Men's Stock Spice Island after shave (4 oz splash for ~$12) and Brooks Brothers 1818 cologne (6 oz spray for ~$35).
