    Default musc ravaguer

i hear that this is a musky animalic fragrance that starts off really controversial but then really smoothens out into something very pleasant. probably the most acclaimed fragrance from the malle house in this community.

what are your impressions of it

Agree on all counts. I additionally don't find the open "really controversial"... With about 160 reviews on this site alone for the fragrance, it's review page might be a good starting place to look for more detailed opinions.

MR is a good one. I wish I wouldn't have sold my bottle.

It was smooth the entire time and each transition throught the notes was seamless.

The quality oozed from the first spray until it's final moments... which lasted forever.

Get a sample vial from MR if they still give free samples and report back!

To my nose there is nothing controversial about it. It's smooth and modern. It's a cliche to say it's sex in the bottle, but to me it is along with Duro.

I've worn it 2 or 3 times and still haven't figured out what all the fuss is about. It's not bottle worthy IMO.

I find it very sweet - there's a big stinky animalic blast up front which reminds me of Jicky, and this is fun... then it quickly settles down into - on my skin - an almost too sugary confection of vanilla and cinnamon which is very pleasant but more gourmand than sexy.

Its very vanilla sweet with light musc blended in with cinnamon. Upon a person it is warm, sensual and very sexy scent. I once had a decant of this stuff that I used on nights out to clubs etc, good for when you are on the dance floor and want to get noticed. I found it though very potent, a small spray went a long way on my skin.

I really enjoy it, and am in the process of acquiring a bottle. I really like then opening blast of cloves and spices, and of course the dry down is one of the best I've smelled. It is cozy, modern, slightly animalic, and the vanilla is seriously comforting. Good memories attached to this one.

I enjoy the opening quite a bit. There's better vanilla-heavy dry-downs out there.

I kind of liked it and had a bottle, but ended up selling it.

I found it too polarizing among women, and didn't like it enough for it to be one of my I'll-wear-it-regardless scents.

I love it. The opening to me doesn't smell animalic at all, but it does have a raw natural kind of unique smell. To me it's the same smell as cutting open a bourbon soaked vanilla bean and scraping out the inside pulp. There's the smell of vanilla, but it's more raw and bitter, and with a rubbery kind of facet to it. Love that opening, and the drydown is very good too, just a nice warm scent that lasts all day. One of my favourite winter fragrances.

I like the musky opening, which makes you think this could be another Muscs Koublai Khan. But then, as others have said, it smooths out, and becomes a modern spicy. Pleasant, but not true to the name. As some other BNer pointed out, the heart and drydown are very close to Helmut Lang Edp.

I own and like it, but get nothing animalic in it at all. I could be anosmic to something, but to me MR is sweet, cozy vanilla with a blast of lavender at the top.

I dig it the most. Lots of cats don't seem to like how it opens, but I do. I like it top to bottom and it's my fav from Freddy Malle.

Lasts 5-6 hours on my skin and that's probably understated.

I ordered 3 samples from Malle in Paris last week, when they arrived, I dumped all of them into a larger decant (10ml) it overflowed so I left the rest in the malle decant, I got 13ml of Musc Ravageur for the price of shipping. Not bad. When i actually visit the boutique I'll be sure to get as many of the Malle's as possible to sample.

Portrait of a lady is absolutely unwearable for me, and I would think any male..
Carnal Flower is a gorgeous well executed scent, but still highly favored on here and unwearable for me..
French Lover- I was open, and i attempted.. much better experience than the former two, but I prefer my mother to smell like that.

rose and incense turn me the hell off with frags.

"Not bad" is right. I'm in on a 20ml split for the cost of what I would normally spend on a 100ml bottle of something else

Not complaining though. Quite the contrary. I'm very excited to have got in on it

Gorgeous musc cinnamon blast. It is really nice and not in-offensive

Is obsolete fragrance to me in terms of finding nice sweet scent. Too medicinal, too crude (no one i know even remotely likes or finds this appealing). TV dances circles around it in battle for sweet niche vanilla supremacy. Even when the clove dies out somewhat it's still funky smelling.

Amazing scent and it has been a favorite ever since I got it! It gets the odd compliment as well, which is always nice
I'll make sure to stock up as soon as I'm running low.

Musc Ravageur is my only fragrance that is complemented constantly. One spray smells awesome, three is already suffocating. There is something vulgar about it, but it has an identity of its own and it's very well crafted from top to base. It's so sweet and brash, I often feel that I shouldn't love it as much as I do. One of those loves that don't really make sense, I guess.

When I sampled it, my gf told me it smelled like cat pee.

I personally found it ok, and did get better the longer it was on my skin. But I was slightly put off by the opening (though I don't think it's overly offensive or challenging).

I just realized a few days ago that the opening reminded me of hair/scalp grease for black folks.. (I'm black) and growing up I remember my self, mother and sisters all using this yellow or blue pomade to grease our scalp. This is what the opening of MR reminds me of.. Not sure how many people could even relate lol..

I still like the opening tho, nonetheless, but the dry down is definitely where it shines. Too bad that's only 3 hours on me.
