Default No love for YSL Libre?

I seem to understand that YSL Libre is not really liked in the fragrance community? I really enjoy the smell and have not smelled anything like it, partially due to me not having many fresh and or aquatics( Issey Miyake, Chrome,
    and Lacoste Play in style).

What are peoples thoughts on the fragrance? I love the violet leaf in this one and the overall freshness of this scent not to mention it is my most complimented fragrance.

I found the opening really enjoyable but turned incredibly synthetic/plastic-y on the dry down which ruined it for me. I can see how it would garner compliments though.

It's refreshing and likeable but was very, very weak on me. Both longevity and projection.

Not a good fragrance. Has that strange "plastic wood" note that lots of new releases have these days.

L'Homme and all its flankers (including Libre) are some of the worst I have ever smelled. No love here for sure.

Best of the L'Homme lineup, IMO. I never understood the bashing on this one. I'd even go so far as to say it was the best designer release of its year.

As a casual and/or summer, warmer weather scent, this one could actually be very suitable (at least in my opinion and the overall impression my sense of smell has picked up). Maybe not the most unique, uncommon scent around, granted, but still a light, refreshing and overall likable choice among the various summer flankers so diversely available nowadays.

Some VERY mixed reviews... I actually think it's quite good. Very pleasant, fresh and inoffensive. I wouldn't buy it because it's just not all that special, but it smells good, and if that's all you want to achieve - it's a safe buy!
    Smelling good on a budget!

I don't mind this one at all, but I don't reach for it too often. It reminds me a bit of Hypnose Homme but lighter.
My current top 10 (subject to change) in no particular order:

    Rive Gauche Pour Homme
    Serge Lutens Cuir mauresque
    Carbone de Balmain
    L'Essence de Cerruti
    Zino Davidoff
    Essenza de Zegna
    Mugler Cologne
    Kouros Tattoo
    Insense' Givenchy
L'Instant de Guerlain pour Homme Eau Extreme

Very similar experience for me. Almost bought it on the spot after testing it last year. Decided to walk around more and wait for the drydown. Glad I did. I got a similar synthetic/plastic-y smell/vibe in the base.

I have a tester of Libre that I recently received. It's nice, but I would never buy a bottle. It's just missing something that the other two in the L'Homme line from YSL are not. I own a small bottle of L'Homme and large bottle of La Nuit.

I think it's quite decent. The violet and woody-ish notes are very nice. There is a synth sweetness that pops up in the mid but I don't find it to be offensive. Others obviously do. Probably depends on individual preferences and how it performs on your own skin.

Its not the greatest offering from YSL, but its not terrible by any means, in my opinion. However, as others have said, its just not unique or special and therefore while I may wear it a few times during the warmer months (which is like 9 of the 12 months in Phoenix, haha) I just don't find myself reaching for it all that often.

I just made a thread on it recently and yes I think it's underrated. The opening is indeed fantastic the divisive opinions come with the dry down mostly.

I'm in with the changing tide camp on this one. One of my new favorites, can't believe I dodged it for so long. I do feel this flanker is quite different than LaNuit even though there is a slight association. I don't know if its the Vetiver and bergamot that is reminiscent with La Nuit, but I like nod; and i never purposefully purchase scents that smell like something I already have. I feel its a great scent in a sea of the current fresh scents.

I got samples of the homme line. And while i kinda liked homme and la nuit (tho rather sweetish and slightly synthetic) l'homme libre just came off as a synthetic mess, very cheap smelling imo.

It smells of neat synthetic white musk with a side order of pepper to me. Harsh, and a nose irritant (stops me smelling anything properly for about an hour and gives me a runny nose). What's it supposed to smell of?

I think all three L'Homme frags are slightly above average for designer scents of the last few years but below par for the company that gave us Pour Homme, Kouros and Rive Gauche,
