Thread: Your favorite tobacco?
A classic note, tobacco has a long history in perfumery and lives on in many recent popular designer releases as well as in more challenging niche perfumes. Variations seem almost endless, ranging from sweet over smoky to moist or leafy green - but which fragrance contains the best tobacco note or represents the most rewarding interpretation of the rich and complex smell of tobacco?
My own vote goes to the heavily smoky and ambery interpretation in Fumerie Turque - but which one is your favorite? Maybe I didn't even list it?
Santal by Fragonard - Despite the name.
Murdock Bright Leaf followed by Aramis Havana.
Vintage Diorling extrait, vintage Lucien LeLong Indiscreet extrait, vintage original Chanel Coco parfum
A*Men Pure Havane is a masterpiece to me, have got 2 unopened bottles of backup for it!
Back to Black.
Also enjoy -
Herrera for Men.
Marlboro by Philip Morris
I voted Havana by Aramis (I did not see it was multiple choice until it was too late).
I also love:
Laurhum by O'driu
Le Tabac by L'Antichambre
Back to Black by By Kilian
Bogart pour Homme by Jacques Bogart

Current Top Favorites:
1) Portrait of a Lady (EdP Frédéric Malle)
2) Giorgio for Men vintage (Giorgio Beverly Hills)
3) Dia Man vintage edt (Amouage)
4) Les Nombres d'Or Vetyver (Mona di Orio) - tie
4) Lalfeorosa (O'driù) - tie
6) Anat Fritz Original Formula and Classical (Anat Fritz)
7) Captain vintage (Molyneux)
8) Tzora (Anat Fritz)
Agree with Jon Rodgers on Herrera for Men - that is my favorite tobacco.
Gucci Pour Homme II. Sure, it starts with violet and tea, but the tobacco really comes through as the top notes fade.
"Follow your nose. It always knows." -- Toucan Sam
Bright Leaf by Murdock followed by Tobacco Vanille.
I voted for both Back to Black and Pure Havane and got away with it.
Versace Dreamer gets my vote. I love that fresh tobacco leaf/blossom note.
Smelling good on a budget!
I voted TV and Back to Black.
My current top ten:
1. Spice and Wood
2. Noir De Noir
3. Musc Ravageur
4. Bois D'Argent
5. Aoud 1
8. Dior Homme Intense
9. Tobacco Vanille
Favorites include Tabac or Don Corleone by Profumo.it / Scents of the Soul (Abdes Salaam) and Amouage's Tribute Attar
With the common Vanilla companion - Tom Ford's TV or L'Artisan's Havana Vanille (since turned Vanille Absolument for a copyright claim on the name)
With florals and still masculine - Histories de Parfum's 1740 or Tubereuse III Animale, maybe even Xerjoff's Oroville, which has grown on me as a dry and herbal take on tobacco.
I keep hoping that Serge Lutens will focus on a great tobacco (since Fumerie Turque smells like a pool of sun-thickened cow piss to me). I love the tobacco in Sarassins and Voix Noire, but unfortunately it's a minor player in both.
Having Simultaneous Affairs with: Amouage Memoir Man, Fate Man, Interlude Man, Epic Extrait (yep... the femme version), Tribute, Homage, Opus IV, VI, & VII • Puredistance M, Black • Tauer L'Air & Carillon pour un Ange • Knize Ten Golden • L'Artisan Al Oudh, Traversee du Bosphore, Dzing! • TF Noir de Noir • Xerjoff Homme, Richwood, Regio, 1861, 1888, Zafar • Serge Lutens MKK, Gris Clair, Fille en Aiguilles, La Myrre • H de Parfums 1740, Noir Patchouli, Tub3 Animale • Abdes Salaam Tabac, Sharif, Mecca Balsam • MDCI Invasion Barbare, Chypre Palatin • Nicoläi NY, Vie de Chateau Intense, L'Eau Mixte • Dior Leather Oud & Patchouli Imperial • Chanel Sycomore • Guerlain Derby, Songe d'un Bois d'Ete • MFK Oud Cashmere Mood • Ormonde Jayne Man
I voted other - Diptyque Volutes EdT.
TF is more pipe smelling to me. More like cherry tobacco
Pure Havane is a right balanced tobacco gourmand.
Back to back has a back drop of tobacco and I enjoy it a lot. The honey is more dominant to my nose those and since I enjoy it my nose tends to focus on that note.
Tom Ford Tobacco Vanille
Mugler Pure Havane
by Kilian Back to Black
"Other" : Tom Ford for Men
I had to go with Baque for its rustic dried tobacco characteristics.
Guys, if you want something beside a pipe tobacco smell then you should wear Yosh Sombre Negre, which smells like rolling tobacco.
I vote for Fumerie Turque.
From the given choices (alphabetical order):
A*Men Pure Havane by Thierry Mugler
Michael for Men by Michael Kors
Tobacco Vanille by Tom Ford
From this list: Tabarome, London, Pure Havane and The Dreamer are genuine favorites of mine, but also voted, in addition to that, in favor of "others", including the sturdy, affordable Tabac Original.
Would have voted for Chergui. Also have a soft spot for Eau des Baux
D&G Pour Homme(vintage)
Current faves (Subject to change at a moments notice!!):
Roja Dove Diaghilev
Amouage Interlude Man
Pure Distance M
Creed Royal Oud
Absolue Pour le Soir
MDCI Chypre Palatin
MDCI Invasion Barbare
Ronia J Oud Assam
Goti Smoke Essenze
My vote went for Fumerie Turque - too bad that I have so strong allergic reactions that I can't wear it.
Apart from that one, the next one might be Herod from Marly, missing from the list. A bit heavy to my taste, but tobacco scents tend to be heavy.
I also voted for Fumerie Turque as my favorite from the list, but overall I really prefer Don Corleone by Abdes Salaam.
Sans parfum, la peau est muette.
Thanks, everybody - it seems Tobacco Vanille simply runs faster than all its competitors in this category. It's been far ahead right from the start. In 2nd and 3rd positions, Pure Havane and Back to Black are performing very strongly as well, Fumerie Turque trailing behind them as no. 4 at the moment. At the other end of the race, classics Alt-Innsbruck and Habanita haven't moved at all and have yet to score a single vote each. Very interesting.
It's been really exciting to follow, and I thank all of you for voting and for posting your comments or suggestions. And do feel free to go on voting, guys - the poll stays open!
I voted for Alt-Innsbruck. I think that it hasn't been getting any votes because most people do not know about it. It also imo doesn't have a pipe tobacco smell like most fragrances. It has more of a tobacco floral and tobacco leaf scent.
Although I chose Back to Black by Kilian I wouldn't classify it as a tobacco fragrance. I certainly don't get any tobacco out of it. It's a hell of a scent though! One of my all time fav's.
pure havane hands down
of your list (ive tried about half of them) tobacco vanille, but im not huge into tobacco though
I voted for Baque, but there aren't a lot of people who have smelled it, so it probably won't do well in a poll. C&S Cuba and Fumerie Turque were also serious contenders for me.
I'm with the OP and voted Fumerie Turque.
I also love Tribute attar and Tobacco Vanille. Now that someone has reminded me of it, Volutes is pretty awesome too - reminds me of Chergui...
Having just received Michael Kors - Michael for Men a couple of days ago I cannot stop spraying it on myself . Out of all the tobacco scents I have this one is by far the best! To me it really does smell like pipe tobacco, not the burning of the tobacco but rather the tobacco straight out of a fresh bag just being loaded into a pipe and as you are smelling that you can catch a whiff of a vintage glass of whiskey on the table next to the pipe. This stuff is amazing!!
Living each day one spray at a time
I miss Dolce & Gabbana pour homme in the list. The best tobacco frag ever.

"Thank GOD for the nose, for without it we would not be enjoying these beautiful created Scents"
TV is really delicious.

Burberry London, by a mile.
Surprising to see Tobacco Vanille leading the charts. There is very little tobacco, just mostly in the beginning and shortly after everything escalates into vanilla all over. Ew
Since Pure Havane is my favourite designer of all time, it's a no brainer for me. Not the most sophisticated scent in the world but I just love it.
Out of those, I do really love Baque, but I find it's brother Sova better. That being said, as a purely tobacco scent goes, Baque is probably best.
Others I love are TV and BtB from your list.
Fragrance blog returning in May 2014!: http://moteperfumery.blogspot.com/
Burberry London followed closely by Joop! Pour Homme, which has a warm tobacco drydown (note not listed on pyramid).

Howcome Marlboro light is not on the list?
I've not tried all the fragrances in your list but among those I tried, I'd go with Aramis Havana, Tabacco by Odori and Acqua Di Cuba.

Since the appearance of Cuir Tabac, this has probably supplanted what I had stated back in April.
