Thread: Soapy Citrus
I am looking for suggestions for a soapy citrus. I would prefer lemon, but am not limited. I would also prefer something somewhat natural smelling with good quality ingredients. Examples that come to mind are Crown Perfumery Buckingham and Imperial as well as DR Harris Arlington and Trumper's GFT. Are there others?
Prada Amber PH immediately comes to mind.
+1 Original Vetiver. Can't think of anything that fits your description better. One of my favorites!
Though I am a Creed fan, I am weary of any "original" scents. but I guess it's worth a try.
I tend not to like soapy notes. And original vetiver, as other people were saying, smells not of vetiver, but of soap. (third part of the syllogism, I don't like original vetiver).
This won't help, but I once read a reference to Rigaud Eau de Kananga as the perfect scents for pre-war elegant men, who apparently (according to the author, Diana Vreeland) were supposed to smell groomed and soapy and clean. Having acquired a mini, I must say that despite the name, it does smell exactly like a clean, citrusy, soapy neroli. Unfortunately, it doesn't exist anymore.
Yeah Prada Amber - Lasts quite long too!
If soapy and lemon is what you're primarily after, here are some good ones.
YSL Pour Homme
Allure Homme Sport Cologne (clear bottle)
Acqua Di Parma Essenza
Fleurs De Citronnier
As for other soapy fragrances, there's a lot. Soaps come in a ton if different fragrant scents so it's best to sample what you like best. Here are some without the stipulation of a strong lemon.
Prada Amber pour Homme
Narciso Rodriguez Musc
Imagine there were no hypothetical situations.
Pomegranate Noir 100 ml, 95% full no box - $90

I recommend checking our Friends by Moschino. Also Uomo? by Moschino, they are similar, Friends is more soapy.
Also, although cheap and frowned upon. Curve Chill is a great soapy/citrus.
My Current Top 10:
Rive Gauche Light (2004)
Paul Smith Man (2009)
Burberry London (2006)
Prada Amber pour Homme (2006)
Live Jazz (1998)
Eau des Baux (2006)
Midnight in Paris EDP (2010)
Arpege pour Homme (2005)
Eau Duelle (2010)
Acqua di Parma Colonia
Floris No. 89
I genuinely second ADP Colonia and Prada Amber
3rd for Colonia, its a beast
Prada Infusion d'Homme
Cartier Declaration Cologne .
try Givenchy Pi Neo.. very creamy orange that can be thought of as a bit soapy with some imagination =)
Monsieur de Givenchy (current formulation)
Monsieur Mon Amour by Aterlier Flou
Acqua di Parma Colonia/Assoluta
Lots of people recommend Prada Amber PH.
I know it smell like really good soap, and I know mandarin is listed in the pyramid, but is it really a citrus scent in any way?
I think not.
I am more inclined to suggest something like YSL Pour Homme or Monsieur De Givenchy or maybe even Azzaro PH.
Eau de Rochas Pour Homme
Bigelow Elixir White
Chanel Allure Edition Blanche and Creed Himalaya
One of my favorite Bonds, Eau de New York.
Check out Tauer's Orange Star. For the first couple hours it gives me the impression of orange scented laundry detergent (the white powder stuff), but then it has a very nice, long lasting amber and vanilla drydown.
I agree with the others on Creed Original Vetiver.
Sounds like just what you're looking for. Remember to sample it first!
I love "soap"
Niño ceruti pour homme (original)
Trumpers Spanish leather
Creed original vetiver
I'll come back with more when I think of them..
Thanks for the ideas. I ordered a sample of OV.
Thirding Floris No 89

I ended up getting Anglia Duncan and a 1940s bottle of Rigaud Eau de Kananga. Floris is nice if you can get vintage. New Floris fragrances are a pale ghost of their former selves. Floris is surely heading where Penhaligon's is--the garbage bin of history.
Bokaba, if you have the chance, try Monsieur de Givenchy vintage by all means...
pinaud citrus musk......only cost 5 bucks or so
14 sprays of DRAKKAR NOIR should do it
However, somebody said Infusion d'Home. It's not lemon, but it does have a orange-like note, because of neroli. One of the tricks to get soapy scents is neroli. And the reason isn't that neroli is soapy, but that old soaps used to have neroli as fragrance, so our mind kind of associates neroli with soap. Anyway, Infusion has neroli, but I wouldn't say it's a strong citrus fragrance.
On the other hand... what about Luna Rossa. It's not very soapy (I almost cannot feel the soap on it), but OTOH it _is_ a citrus fragrance.
Acqua di parma colonia would be a nice option. Classic citrus .
The very first Bugatti for men, (in the royal blue box).
Lacoste, (original version in white square flacon).
