Default My bottle of L'Air Du Désert Marocain leaked...

    Dear fellow BN's,

I got my bottle of Andy Tauers L'Air Du Desert Marocain today. I bought it from ausliebezumduft.de (Germany) and it was sent to Belgium.

Now the bottle has leaked for 25%. The box is stained. The wooden piece on top is cracked.

    I payed for insured delivery.

    I e-mailed ausliebezumduft.de about it.

They answered that they will send me a voucher for 20€ (bottle costs 95€ without shipping costs...)

What do you guys think about this?

I really don't think €20 is enough to be honest.

How much do u pay for insurance? Well it could be either poor packaging or bad delivery service. Cant blame the site for everything. I dont like voucher compensation though

I once got a bottle of Tuscan Leather from a discounter that had a busted cap. I didn't lose any of the juice, but they offered me a $5 refund. I had to fight to get them up to $10, how pathetic. That retailer's name rhymes with Schmented Funky.

Since you paid for insurance, you should get full refund. Getting a voucher could be optimal for both, if you so prefer, but the amount is too little. I'd go for 40 EUR.

Andy Tauer is quite good with this customer satisfaction, so it's almost ironic that it happened with one of his bottles.

    Thank's for your replies.

I emailed again and said that 20€ doesn't cover the los.

More refund is impossible they replied so I have to send the bottle back so they can send me a new one.

All the hassle... pffff... I hope they will cover me with samples ;-)

I find the bottles on that site overpriced but it was the only site where I could find LADM and got it shipped to Belgium...

    Well I guess I'm becoming a real fraghead now! A leaked bottle = 41th purchase ;-)

Seems reasonable. Hope they cover shipping.

Couldn't you file a claim since you got the parcel insured?

The voucher is not a customer-friendly solution but asking you to return the leaked bottle in exchange for a new one is reasonable. IF that's actually possible - I mean, it's leaking because of a busted cap so you can't just send it with the remaining juice inside. I'd tell them before returning it, that you'll empy it to avoid trouble with the delivery service. That way you'll end up with a new bottle and 75% of the first one. Not a bad deal, if you ask me. To be on the safe side, maybe take a picture of the bottle and package as you've received it.

Ask for a bigger discount that is proportional to the juice you lost

If they're for customer satisfaction they'd let you keep the faulty one out of good faith.

What's the meaning of insured delivery if damaged goods aren't reimbursed for fully? I don't understsnd.
I guess you're still losing on the shipping charges even with the exchange. Isn't the shipper responsible in any way given the insurance?
Whatever the outcome, I encourage you to report this on the site reviews or other general consumer review sites. There is no reason not to inform other consumers and there is no reason not to mention retailers' names. If they don't like it, let them improve their service the next time.

I also think they should have just sent you a new bottle, and allowed you to keep the old one.

If you send them the old and damaged one, what will they do with it ?

It sounds to me like they were simply trying to make things difficult for you, which is not very customer-friendly, given that the problems may have resulted from their carelessness in packing.

Yes, they should have. Once, I ordered one of the Chanel Excluifs online. Received the shipment and the packing was horrible. The bottle was loose in packaging and I complained. Just for the simple complaint, they sent me a large 3.4 oz bottle of Eau Extreme. No matter the amount you're spending, you should be treated well by the company you're purchasing from. I'm surprised they didn't simply ask for a photo as Chanel did.

They probably need the bottle to give to the manufacturer/distributor for credit. In your case, you bought directly from Chanel, so it's easier for them to part with the other bottle and write it off as a claim, but for a retailer it's different. Of course, it depends on the retailer. I'm not saying it's not frustrating to have to waste time in wrapping and shipping the defective bottle, but it's understandable that they want it and it's good that they are covering shipping.

It'd be a matter of reading their returns policy to see what it entails, but who reads those, anyway?

I guess they will use the rest of the juice to fill up sample vials they sell?

I'm happy I will get a new bottle and hopefully everything will be okay then.

But of course a lot of hassle now. I guess those companies are only interested with their own profit rather than the customer.

It was the first time that I ordered something on that site... I find the bottles to be expensive there but it was difficult for me to get a hand on a Tauer.

'Aus Liebe Zum Duft' is a great store and I find it quite normal that they would like you to return

Definitely more reasonable to just send it in and get a new bottle. I wouldn't want a bottle that leaks anyways even if they did refund it for the lost juice.

You could even try e-mailing Tauer Perfumes and letting them know about your ordeal. Maybe they will take pity on your and let you do an exchange directly.

If nothing else, at least it will alert them to the unsavory business practices of the company you dealt with.

    Best of luck.

Disagree, why should TS essentially get 2 bottles for the price of one? Assuming the bottle was packed properly, the leakage is not the retailers fault, and they shouldn't take the loss. Aus Liebe Zum Duft have a very good sampling program, which will allow them to recoup some of the cost of this bottle.

Knowing the packaging of LAdDM (a tin box fully padded with foam) and the mulitple times I received fragrances from ALzD, I would think this is simply a case of bad luck and if anything either the carrier or Tauer's production is to blame.

I don't want to defend ALzD too much though, because it's not the first time I read that their customer service isn't reacting all that nice to valid complaints recently. My personal experience has always been good though.

I agree. It would have to have gotten trampled on with something of considerable weight for that to happen. If the box was crushed, I am sure the OP would have taken note if that. At 215lbs, I can stand on the Tauer packaging and not harm the contents.

I just think it was just a case of bad luck. Their original offer go a 20% discount was lacking, but the fact remains, they are replacing the bottle at what appears to be no expense to TLS, so in the end, they are doing the right thing.

I think it was a production problem. The spray leaked and the wooden cap was broken due to the humidity? There was a card in it with a handwritten Andy Tauer signature to "enjoy my purchase"... It's not that they don't do effort... The card with the signature smelled like heaven... no like a desert!!! Mmmmmm!!!

    - - - Updated - - -

Well I already got a nice e-mail back from Andy Tauer stating that the customer always has to return the bottle in case that Tauer would want to have it send to the production center to have it inspected.

Well really looking forward to a 100% fine bottle now!

Well I got my new bottle today in perfect condition. I've received a refund for the costs that I had to make to send the broken bottle back. No samples included today though... Still I'm happy with it.
