Default An aquatic scent that is not all about the mediterranean?

Does anyone have any suggestions for an aquatic scent which is more about the pacific or atlantic oceans than the mediterranean?

It just seems like every aquatic incorporates herbs and citrus fruits found around the med.

It can be a 'beach scent' too.

Only on Basenotes would you get a question like this

Two things come to mind: aquatics aren't usually herby IMO, let mediterranean herby. They're full of colone and metallic smells. They're not based on oceans or water. They're just chemicals. Beaches don't smell of anything other than sea spray (which is can contain moss from the vegetation, ie seaweed). Water and salt has no smell other than associated smells.

The 'aquatic' idea is ultimately a marketing idea.

If I wanted to mke a 'beach' perfume I would make it smell exactly like suntan lotion which is the smell people associate with beaches (much more than herbs or ozone!). I'd then dress it up with a cynical advertising angle of 'golden sands and fresh sea breeze' - with the right colours on the packaging that hint at the environment = and people would swear it smelled like a beach...

The perfume business is that simple.

And...If you can fool people into thinking L'Air du desert marocain smells like a desert (for instance) you can really tell them anything and they'll believe it.

    I'm not a rube

I was hoping people would read between the lines and know what I meant.

When I say Atlantic, I don't literally mean the water in that ocean. But everything the Atlantic brings to mind. Put into a fragrance. It could smell like a fisherman for all I care. Just looking for something other than rosemary and lemon.

I'd recommend two of the aquatic fragrances by Kenzo: pour Homme and L'Eau pour Homme, definitely aquatic yet not a bit Mediterranean scents.

I understand what you are saying. More, straight forward ocean, no citrus wafting from the land nearby. Bond No. 9 Wall Street or He Wood Ocean Wet Wood.

Bulgari Aqua is more stormy and cold. Bulgari Aqua Marine is halfway between.

Perhaps Tommy Bahama. Although it's not really aquatic.. it has an aquatic feel to it to me. But the fragrance itself a spicy woody once. It definitley evokes a sandy beach/salty water feel.

I had missed this thread. I strongly dislike marines, and was always dismayed at the suggestion that the mediterranean (I spent many summers on the beach in Italy) smelled like them.

Ironically, a marine that's pure marine, without herbs or citrus, is the superexpensive Tirrenico by I profumi del Forte (ironically, because it's exactly the name of a sea within the the Mediterranean). Indeed, some BNer in the past said that it reminded him a lot of the California beaches, with driftwood, algae, and what else.
