Default Top 10 Scents for the 50 to 100 dollar range.

Hey guys I'm looking to expand my collection now I'm not making Tom Ford/Creed kind of money but then again I don't want to keep looking for Walmart specials either.

I'm interested in anything as long as it isn't Unisex or Aqua related.

I'm thinking make it 5 Warm Weather, and 5 Cold Weather.

If some one already did this by all means just give me the link and let this thread disappear into the depths.

    Thank's guys.

The 2.5oz Creeds can be had online for around $100, and many Comme de Garcons frags can be found in that range too, 2 Man, Kyoto, Ouarzazate are some good ones. Beauty Encounter currently has a bunch of Serge Lutens for less than $100.

Sartorial is one of my favorites, a great scent when wearing slacks and tie. If you like sandalwood, you could get Villoresi Sandalo or AOS sandalwood. Acqua di Parma is getting closer to $100 but should be readily available at a Bloomingdales or NM to try before buying.

yes the experienced fraghead learns that decants and splits are the way to go - not full bottles!

    What are Decants and splits?

Default Re: Top 10 Scents for the 50 to 100 dollar range.

decants are small samples taken from a big bottle. anywhere from 1ml to usually no bigger than 10 ml. basically to test it to see if you want to own a huge bottle.

Oh I get it some invests in a full bottle or an industrial sized bottle then decants it into smaller bottles for a profit that are cheaper then retail full bottles so more appealing to people like me; are there people that are more trust worthy than others?

Except for the AOS, those are all over $100 though.

If you look on the splits board here on Basenotes, there are always several members offering splits. You can look at their profiles and check their feedback ratings. I've bought several splits from different members on BN and never had a bad experience.

All of the 50 ml bottles should be in the $80 range. If you're going to be collecting 10 different bottles you might find that the small bottle is all you need.

    3. Hermes Equipage
    4. Molinard Habanita (EDT and EDP), marketed to women but a great vetiver with leather and tobacco
    5. Dior Homme
    6. Aramis
    7. Parfum d'Empire Cuir Ottoman
    8. Parfum d'Empire Ambre Russe
    9. L'Occitane Eau des Baux
    10. L'Occitane Labdanum

Decants and splits can be found on the board here (see relevant forums), on Crystal Flacon, and Badger and Blade, and also websites that are decanters (Surrender to Chance is the one I use lately, apparently there is a new one called Decant Shop that has gotten good reviews). I can't vouch for each group other than saying I've had good interactions with the folks at BnB, Surrender to Chance, and specific folks on Basenotes and CF (some of who post on here). It's a great way to sample many fragrances but spend less $ per fragrance. Keep in mind your $ per ml might be less favorable vs. full bottle, but you're overall costs will be much less as you get to sample more and more fragrances. And frankly once you get a large collection you don't even need more than 10 ml of most fragrances at one time.

Whoever is hosting the split, check their feedback and you'll be able to make an informed decision. I have gotten in on a few splits with PalmBeach and one with BillyD and all have gone smoothly.
