Default buying scents mainly for their bottles

Have you ever bought a fragrance you were thought was just an OK scent because it came in a nice bottle?

I'm really tempted by Prada infusion d'homme. I really like the bottle, and while I would were the scent occasionally, I prefer amber pour homme to it.

That has never been a criterion of mine, but if the bottle looks nice, I consider it an added bonus.

Never purchased because of bottle. That Lubin Idole is tempting though.

It is great. I bought this last year - It comes in a fairly nice box also. One of the best bottles in my collection.

I personally have never purchased a fragrance because of the bottle. Mostly, because when I purchase a bottle of fragrance, I decant it into a 5ml atomizer, then store the bottle with all my others in my basement. So, my bottles don't get much attention.

If I went by that philosophy, my wardrobe would be down to a quarter.

But perfume is intended as art for the olfactory sense not the visual.

    for swap/sale:

I honestly bought Dirty English because of the bottle.

I bought Midnight in Paris and Lubin Idole edt and swapped/sold them both. I think the bottles themselves might have had something to do with my purchase. I do like the scents, but not enough to own.

Hedonist, I agree with this. The bottle is sometimes part of the experience. Not always.

The appeal of an aesthetically pleasing bottle isn't lost on me, but I never have and never will buy a frag 'cause of the bottle.

When I'm killing time in a department store, I always enjoy fiddling with nice perfume bottles... not enough to buy them though.

Never have bought any fragrance just for the bottle, infact if the bottle is undamaged the shape does not matter at all to me...
What is important is the scent itself, even if it comes in a cheap plastic bottle!!!!!!
My most favorite scents that I can't be without:
    Givenchy Xeryus Rouge
    Dior Homme Intense
    Fahrenheit

Never. However, if a bottle is pig-ugly, it may put me off.

Never happened to me to choose a scent SOLELY because of its bottle, in fact, I still like a great scent in a meh, uneventful, unassuming, average-looking etc. bottle. Of course, in an ideal case, when the juice contained is already great and the bottle design also excels, it is an additional, even more convincing, argument to buy a fragrance I enjoyed in the first place.

I have never done this and I never intend to. It's a waste of money if what's inside is not getting used.

Funny how most people on this thread don't consider the bottle design but its actually a critical element in putting together a successful product.

Maybe it's because some people aren't prepared to be hoodwinked by deceptive marketing...

Only interested in the juice -- Idole's bottle was nice but eventually chucked it out with all the rest. I'd quite happily store all my fragrances in test tubes -- I have plenty of sprayers

I don't think Basenoters are truly representative of the majority of the perfume market.

While I appreciate a nice bottle, it has never influenced my decision to purchase (at least consciously...).

I've purchased spirits just because I like the bottle.

Apologies for not making it clear, but I was agreeing. The Basenoters being those people who aren't prepared to be hoodwinked (or are focused on something else rather than the mere image imparted by the bottle).
