Default Day to Day fragrance advice

I'm looking at buying a fragrance for day to day wear.
The only fragrance that I own right now is Lacoste's L.12.12 White
I like it plenty, but as I said, I only really wear it when I'm going out to the student union in the evenings with my friends.
I'm a 2nd year university student, so naturally I'm broke.

But I was wondering what you guys could recommend to me for day to day wear?
I'm looking for something subtle, yet at the same time provides enough of an impact to notice a difference (If that makes sense)
At present the main fragrance I was looking at is "Le Male" by the Big JPG
(I've tested it once or twice and I quite like the subtle sweeter hint it has, it doesn't seem as 'In your face as "Le Male terrible" seems to be)
I'm not too fond of citrusy kinda fragrances, and I do like the whole 'vanilla' thing provided by "Le Male"
Yet after lurking through previous forums posts, generally people seem to think there are better alternatives.

So, could any help me here with any particular fragrance advice, or whether "Le Male" would accomplish the subtle day to day thing I want.

le male is anything but subtle.

If you like the smell and want something cheaper and not as loud, I would recommend Cuba Gold (around £8 for 100 ml)

I always felt it was subtle
I mean it is prominent of course, but it seems to be a lighter fragrance (or am I just talking nonsense here?)

    £8 for 100ml....that's really cheap :O

    What's your spending limit/ range?

I'd even suggest Acqua Di Gio, if that's within your range.

But Le Male, B London, or ADG, even though fairly common, are good to start with. Even a 2oz La Nuit

My spending is definitely no more than £40
I'm looking at getting a 75ml bottle or similar size
What is acqua di gio like?
And who is 'la nuit' by?

    Yves Saint Laurent- La Nuit

    Giorgio Armani- Acqua Di Gio

My daily driver was ADG, but find myself switching up depending upon mood, situation now.
I do like La Nuit because it's not as common as Le Male, ADG

You might want to try the others by Lacoste in the same series L.12.12. The red one is nice and still subtle.

That's the one I was thinking of, given the OP's liking for 'vanilla'.

    Okay then,
Next time I get the chance to I'll take a look at the Yves Saint Laurent one and the Giorgio Armani

Just as a point of reference,
Is it bad to get a 'common' fragrance
I mean, obviously, it doesn't set you out from the crowd, but is that all there is to it?

Those are a pretty decent starting place. I'd also recommend trying Bleu de Chanel and Allure Homme Sport by Chanel. Both are good, safe scents for a university setting.

As far as wearing a fragrance that is common, it is not a bad thing at all. To me that's like saying it's bad to wear Nike simply because they are popular. I don't think that makes any sense, and if you are comfortable wearing a scent (Or anything for that matter), knowing you might run into someone wearing the same thing then its not bad. Of course there seems to be a bunch of 'hipsters' on this website, that have a huge issue with the possibility of having anything in common with anyone else.

Some thoughts on wearing a popular scent:
People might associate you with someone else that wears the same frag. When they smell you, they might be reminded of the person who they first sniffed the same scent.

The ones mentioned above are quite popular. So, if you want to try a bit less common frags, check out Givenchy Pi - vanilla, but with a more masculine vibe to it

le male is a little bit too strong to wear everyday. especially in the heat of the summer.

and its really sweet so you may get tired of it every day.

i know people who do wear it everyday and love it, but for many people's its more for special occasions.

i do like le male a lot, but if you decide to get it, make sure you don't spray more than once.
