    Default Hello to all ...

    Hello all ..

I've been lurking on this forum for a while now, but joined only yesterday. Im a big believer of the benefits from aromatherapy for overall well being which I've practiced for years now mixing and blending my own oils , but I've recently started getting interested in the whole Perfume side.

    Now question time ..
Can anyone recommend me any books, starting with the basics , ive checked on amazon and found over 2000 results , but is there any classics every Perfumer should have on this shelf.

    Thanks in advance .. Louise

    Welcome to basenotes, Louise!

The Alchemy of Scent by Mandy Aftel is supposed to be excellent.
"What is this secret connection between the soul, and sea, clouds and perfumes? The soul itself appears to be sea, cloud and perfume..." - from Zorba the Greek by Nikos Kazantzakis.

    Welcome!

Do you mean books on the history of perfumery, or books on how to make them? Cannot comment on the how-to-make. For the history, I have found Roja Dove The essence of perfume a very good, though basic, intro. I love the Turin Sanchez book, but it's more "advanced", so to speak, and it requires some previous knowlege about the basics of perfume history.
