Thread: Rhubarb

    Default Rhubarb

Need your help gentleman with rhubarb. I can't find oils anywhere and from what I heard it's a combo of syth. Latest Aedes and CDG Rhubarb is my life during the summer, after years of wearing CDG R. I think I'm ready to work on formula myself. What synth components will I need to get a fresh rhubarb note?

Styrallyl Acetate (aka Methyl Phenyl Carbinyl Acetate). For the green effect a very small amount of 2-methoxy-3-isoButyl Pyrazine (use a 0.01% solution, no stronger it is VERY powerful). This chemical is the smell of green peppers, and is found in Galbanum and Petitgrain oils.

Paul, Rhubafuran is the only component I'm able to find and possibly buy. Can you help me finding them?

Paradisimide is an interesting juice but it gives warm tropical vibe, and I'm looking for cold peppery rhubarb with a green note that David described

Styrallyl Acetate, all I get is direct manufacturers that only deal with big orders. I hate the fact that most of the new or not so new interesting synth's are not available.

As we don't know where you live it is difficult to suggest a supplier, but I am very surprised that you cannot find anyone who will sell you a small amount of Styrallyl Acetate, This chemical has been known for decades, and is very common in Perfumery. Have you tried Google? Type in "Styrallyl Acetate suppliers" and see what happens.

As an aside I always find that Rhubafuran etc. smell more of Grapefruit than Rhubarb; but that's just me.

Some other chemicals you could try; Vetikol Acetate and Cressanther.

I Googled "Styrallyl Acetate suppliers" and found a few who would supply small amounts. Arkpharmanc and Penta, for example. It is possible if you look hard enough.

Synthetic, Natural Materials Highlighted in Firmenich, Vigon ...

I searched Vigon and firmenich also got reference to ventos catalog
    http://www.scribd.com/doc/58468621/Ventos-Catalogo2010

    http://www.firmenich.com/tools/searc...earch=ambranum
Ventos ambranum - few spanish links with no options to buy.

    It's not easy

ambranum is beautifully used in Opus VI. Love from the first sniff. Should work great in composition with rhubarb co2 frankincenses, pink and black pepper. Once I have it together I'll see where it takes me

Thank you gentlemen and so sorry for my stupidity this is my first steps in diy perfume.

That first link says that Vigon sells it, and it is a Firmenich Product, just call Vigon and ask a Customer Service rep how much it is. They may even send you out a sample...

Since it is a recent link in P&F, I'm pretty certain that Vigon would still carry it, although not everything they carry is on their website price listing, just call and ask.

Just a quick add to this - cyclamen aldehyde also works well with styrallyl acetate to contribute to a rhubarb note - I remembered just now because I was compounding a fragrance that uses that very accord . . .

Perfumer's Apprentice stock cyclamen aldehyde and (for those in Europe) De Hekserij do too.

It's very powerful stuff so you don't need huge amounts, though not quite as powerful as most of the aliphatic aldehydes.
