Default L'artisan due to axe half it's frags

According to the manager of my favourite fragrance shop in Budapest L'artisan is axing half it's fragrances due to new eu regulations on ingredients.

To me, they can close up shop all together for all i care. They discontinue T42, the dumbest move they could have ever made.
That and Dzongkha were the only 2 worth a damn.

Thats like JPG discontinuing Le Male.

They are owned by the same company which has cheapened penhaligons frags formulae massively.

It's both stupid, and in my opinion deceitful to take a house (or two) which has built its reputation on its quality rather than advertising and ruin that reputation by decimating the products.

They're milking the reputation they setup but peddling inferior creations. Sellouts.

Wow, there's a lot of negativity around L'artisan here. They make great products IMO.

As for the 'axing' of scents (a metaphor, perhaps) anyone got any details?

I personally have always enjoyed their products, and not worried about any discontinuations as I have almost everything they have come out with anyway.

My favourite example, Piment Brulant is an astonishing work of originality - and I like many of the others. Lots of variety and invention with this house.

I don't get the L'Artisan hate either. Tea For Two was nice but it wasn't exactly the best fragrance from the line.

Any idea as to which fragrances will be axed?

Like L'Artisan, dislike T42, though. This is one of the few houses that remains, somewhat, affordable amongst the niches. To say they've gone downhill is odd considering some of the stuff they've put out recently.

I don't care for their recent creations, not because they're bad, they're just not my kind of thing. The last new release I found FBW was Dzonghka, which was around 2006 or 2007, I think. I am interested in which ones are being discontinued, though. I'd pick up back-ups of Dzing! and Fou d'Absinthe if I needed to.

As long as I have a bottle of Safran Troublant, all is well.

I would rather see a perfume be discontinued when the house can't keep up its quality due to increasingly stringent ingredient regulations, than have it badly reformulated, all too often while still being sold under the older name and in the older packaging.

Wow - exactly my thoughts when I read the topic. 1/2 down? I personally won't miss it - regardless of which ones get cut.

Also agree with 30 Roses. Luckily I have backups of some of my favs... just need another backup for Timbuktu.

Hang on a minute, who said anything about reformulation?

Without any official announcement this thread is just typical Basenotes rumour-driven paranoia

L'artisan might have been great when they first started. To the credit of La Porte, this was a novel, high quality, truly "niche" house. But things are different now both because of a decline in their originality and quality and the fact that there are so many other quality niche houses in the market.

I did not say L'Artisan was reformulating anything-- only that if they are discontinuing any fragrances due to ingredient regulations, that is still preferable to me than badly done reformulations.

    Default L'artisan

My information came from the owner of one of the three niche fragrance retailers in Budapest. Presumably he'd ensure the information received was accurate as the shop stocks about 25 L'artisan fragrances and he'd have been told about the plans to axe L'artisan by L'artisan.

Correction : not all L'artisan fragrances will be axed, but many.

They killed Tea for Two, they could go out of business for all I care after that move.
