Question Is There a Fragrance That Epitomises 70's Disco ?

I grew up in the 70's and miss it like hell !!!
The Sweet, Roxy Music, Soul Music, etc.
    What a wonderful time.....

For me, perhaps Missoni Uomo best epitomises that era.....
although it was actually released in 1990 !
    ....can't explain.

What reminds me of the 70s (disco or otherwise generally) and is still wearable to me is Aramis 900. I love this one!
I agree with Paco Rabanne and thought of it too except I don't wear it anymore.

I was born in the 80's so I asked my dad and he told me it was Givenchy Gentleman, Halston I 12 and Z 14 all the way for him. Thats what he "boogied down" to(his words not mine). Funny cuz I wear all three of those currently. Go figure. I was probably conceived with one of those frags hanging densely in the air. Ewww!

I thought of Jovan Sex Appeal for Men as well - it is such a rich, spicy patchouli blend. The kind of clubs with a lot of heavy, lingering smoke from various substances...a great head-shop scent that fits the bill for sure!

    :-) !

The 70s! When frags were unapologetic, as well as the wearers

some other popular frags here were:

    Blue Stratos
    Macho
    Azzaro pour Homme
ointments and perfume delight the heart....

HI. I've been a big fan of nightclubs and perfumes, a love born together at the end of the seventies in the best of the disco era. In those days in Italy were divided into groups SuperMACHO and dandy, the first were directed to Yatagan, Mr. Carven, Ho Hang, and others were the most, went out with Paco Rabanne, Brut33, Azzaro pour homme Drakkar ... What a great time!

...the scents I wore in the seventies:

    Aramis (1965)
    Chanel Pour Monsieur (1955)
    Eau Sauvage (1966)
    Etienne Aigner No. 2 (1976)
    Grey Flannel (1976)
    Habit Rouge (1965)
    Halston Z-14 (1976)
    Je Reviens (1932)
    Le Dix (1947)
    Monsieur Rochas (1969)
    Paco Rabanne pour Homme (1973)
    Pierre Cardin Pour Monsieur (1972)
    Polo (1978)
    Shalimar (1925)
Un Homme de Charles Jourdan (1979)
    YSL pour Homme (1971)

...Aramis was probably the most worn fragrance in disco's...?

For a 90s scent, I thought Versace Black Jeans had a certain 70s Disco era vibe to it.

Have to admit that in my head disco and classic manly scents don't really go together, probably due to being younger than disco and the John Travolta movie. For some reason I imagine sweeter stuff, say Obsession, Sex Appeal, One Man Show Gold, Lagerfeld, that kind of stuff.

I'm a girl and I wore Jovan Musk in the mid-to-late 70's as a teenager. My best friend Julie had a huge bottle.
But my favorite 70's perfume is Eau de Patou, albeit, not popular in clubs.

I thought patchouli was more of a hippie scent? What notes was 70's disco all about? For those who've been in Studio 55. What people actually wear there?

is true hippies or flower children were oriented oils or essences and patchouli was definitely the most worn. However, in those days almost everything was still in Italy or "right" or "left" (politics) and the disco with expensive perfume was surely on the right

    Drakkar Noir.

I vaguely recall it had a weird commercial with this pulsing, drum-heavy disco soundtrack and a lot of sweaty guys boxing, shooting arrows, and doing other things, in shadows against a black backdrop. Even though I was only about 13 when disco reigned, I remember thinking that even though a woman in red runs out and hugs the guy, the ad was very homoerotic (okay, I was 13 and didn't know what "homoerotic" meant, but you get the point).

Hey, I just found it on youtube! It's in French, but it still has the music and images I'm talking about. In hindsight, the images are not quite so . . . Antaeus-y . . . but that music is still '70s disco all the way.

Late 70s and even early 80s were dominated by green chypres and strong amber/musks.

    Hey outline -

I don't know exactly what was going on at "Studio 55", but next door at "54" - there was a scene that was surreal. ;-)

Just kidding...I know it was a typo. While patchouli has 'head shop'/hippie context, Jovan Sex Appeal was (and still is) a very good scent incorporating the note with spices, warm amber, a touch of wood and a musk. The bottle oozes sensuality.

Jovan Musk for Men is much more of a true 'disco'-scent (and has a great vibe of its own), but one cannot ignore the magic in the blue box that probably is responsible for well over a million babies that have come into this world!

    Cheers,
