Do you like it, or not? Personnally, I like it. Thoughts, dear friends?

Good thing you started this post. I was just thinking of ordering a bottle of this. I think its a great powerhouse soapy fragrance and it is not dated at all.

Tried it many years ago in Canada on a trip there. Personally didn't like it.

Keep seeing it for $8.99 at my local Marshall's. Sounds like it's probably worth at least that much. I'll probably spring for it.

Own it, like it, and wear it at least every 10 days or so. Good longevity, good bang for the buck.

Yes everyone is spot on........Here are the stages Top: irish spring soap Middle: Polo (green bottle) base: Leather. there are alot of notes for the base but the only one my nose can detect is leather. I really like this fragrance. Projection and longevity are good.

I have similar sentiments. It's not the worst thing I've ever smelled, but it has a burning paper smell that means my blind-bought bottle doesn't even get to reside in my fragrance cupboard.
It sits on the floor next to my door collecting dust.

It is subject to near-constant light, and I couldn't care less

Saturday night at the roller skating rink I have received compliments on it when playing Galaga while the Bee Gee's were playing in the background. Yeah, it' old school, but there's something about Sung Homme that just sets that 80's mood. One of my favorite if not my overall favorite scent from the 80's.

I enjoy the scent but find it difficult to wear. One spray can be suffocating. I have tried it in different seasons and different settings. It seems to be the definition of cloying to me. Even 6-8 hours after application it just keeps rearing its head, saying I'm still here. Big bold and brash.

For the price it goes for,
    Its a great fragrance.
    The key lies in application.
    I find half-three fourth of a
spray to my chest does the trick.

I've been on Basenotes for over a dozen years, and for the life of me, I still don't understand what "soap" and "soapy" means in relation to scents. I guess that whatever it is, I must like it.

It means the fragrance smells like soap. Have you smelled Prada's Infusion d'Homme?

I got a bottle for cheap. I don't like it.

I agree with smoothie72, "One spray can be suffocating. I have tried it in different seasons and different settings. It seems to be the definition of cloying to me. Even 6-8 hours after application it just keeps rearing its head, saying I'm still here. Big bold and brash."

I guess I like the scent but dislike the fragrance. If that makes sense? Initial spray is nice but then it starts to make me nauscious, quickly.
As far as "soapy scents" I love Prada Amber.

Agree that PA is pretty nice, but I like SH also.

Thanks for that, but I'm still puzzled (or my nose doesn't work well).

In Australia they sell Velvet soap, which is soap used for washing clothes without any added scents.I have smelled Infusion d'Homme but don't own it. It didn't remind me of Velvet soap. I have Prada Infusion Vetiver, do you perceive that as soapy?

As an aside, which Top, Middle or Basenote is the one that gives the perception of soap to you? I've never seen any listed as "soap" in the same way they would list a type of wood, flower or leather.
    Regards,
    Renato

Thanks, but the only soap I didn't like has been Derby Shave Stick, mainly because of some weird lavendar in it which I found near repulsive - but the shave was excellent. And I'm usually fond of lavendar.

Own it and like it but it must not be over applied to get the best performance and avoid it getting cloying! 2 sprays and you're set!

Right behind you Renato with that idea! One of the true powerhouses you can still find untouched in its original format.

I smelled and circled this my last trip to Perfumania. The color of the bottle/liquid sort of put me off. Looks like Koolaid or something. Anyways, I'm waiting to find this at T.J. Max / Ross / Marshals for a nice little blind buy.

Personally I go both ways with it. There are some workdays where I shower with Irish Spring Hair and Body Wash and then I wear Sung Homme. While it is not my own personal fave as far as fragrances go, there is just something really nice about going about smelling fresh out of the shower all day. I seem to garner approval from the females I work with in a crowded Nurses Station. I have never got the noted "Ash Tray" vibe that others have noted. For me, it's all Irish Spring......supercharged and on steroids Irish Spring. It's not something I can wear more than two or three times per month however as it can be so intense as to give me a mild headache even with just 1-2 sprays. I get bored with it's lack of evolution too. All in all, I'm glad it's in my collection.
