Crabtree and Evelyn West Indian Lime is nice, as is Acqua di Parma Cologne. 4711 is the classic edc and is very cheap.
Thread: A superior cologne |
I am looking for an eau d cologne with a superior quality, more volume, something that shines. My current favorite is AdP colonia and I also like Cartier eau cologne so I like Armani, yet I am still missing something.
Mugle cologne is also nice but too synthetic, eau savage has something in there that induces me a headache. Guerlain Homme L Eau is nice but deviates too much from the classical cologne cliche. Guerlain´s different colognes are nice but, IMHO, they all lack something. Perhaps I am looking for an impossible.
AdP is almost perfect but it lacks testosterone, too clean cut. Armani is very nice but lacks originality and it has been reformulated in a light cheap version. Cartier is the one that lately seduces me the most as it has something in the mix that makes it more present.

You may want to sample Lostmarc'h Atao. A spectacular lemon/lime frag with a slightly woody base. Obviously not an edc, it maintains a sustained presence all day, giving the wearer that "cologne" feeling for quite a long while. It has fast become my favourite citrus.
ointments and perfume delight the heart....
#BBOG!
Lorenzo Villoresi Acqua di Colonia
Bergamoto Marino has very positive feedbacks, but I've never tried it...
From my experience:
L'Eau de l'Artisan (to me, close to Eau Sauvage)
Lalique White (spicy with elemi, bright)
Got a sample of Frapin L'Humaniste, citrusy and very nice
My no brainer: Eau Universelle (L'Occitane), uplifting and shiny!
Hope it helps!
+1 on the Villoresi and C&E.
Also I would try Granville by Dior. And maybe Declaration Cologne.
Try Acqua di Genova. It's excellent, but you might find it too traditional. Worth sampling, though.
Also try the various frags by Rance 1795. Most are based on a cologne theme, but with little twists and often a bit of something extra. I like them a lot.
Dior Homme Intense (Reformulated version)
Cologne du Parfumeur by Guerlain.

Any Eau de Cologne is normally weak on projection / longevity, I am yet to come across one with a 6-8 hr longevity (havent tried all the suggested ones in this thread though). I like Mugler Cologne & Cologne du 68 from Guerlain...
I've have tried and own a few samples of Chanel Exclusifs eau de cologne, but i dont think its worth the 200+ price tag, but its very good...
A recent buy was Eau Fugace, pretty decent as well...
Also, +1 to this --->>>
I'd add two "false cologne" from The Different Cie that I really like
- Lemon Cordoza (More "classic" yet very well done)
- After Midnight (with an oriental touch, very nice, the one that deserves the name false cologne the most)
I find the two other scents closing the cologne line interesting too.
I think the problem is in you, not in the perfumes. You expect too much from your Eau de Colognes. You have the best eau de cologne in the world and you treat it as some ordinary fragrance. Believe me, Acqua di Parma colonia is the gold standard for Eau de Colognes. It is a work of art, it is pure genius and you will never find anything better than it. Stop your search and learn how to live happily ever after with ADPC.
Some sugestions you might want to look at are : Xeryus by Givenchy or Balle de Match by Parfums De Nicolai( I'm not sure if it is discontinued or not , but I haven't seen it on their web site )
The best true eau de cologne I've tried is Chanel. Neroli Portofino isn't a "traditional" eau de cologne, but is nice. Frapin's Humaniste was mentioned by someone; I like that one, but it's not in the same class as these two.
Current Top Five:
1. Creed Green Irish Tweed
2. Tom Ford Neroli Portofino
3. Hermes Concentre d'Orange Verte
4. Bond No. 9 New Haarlem
5. Creed Original Vetiver
Very good suggestions...and to add, take a look at the Gandini 1896 line. Excellent quality, natural ingredients, high amount of aromatic compounds with both depth and longevity (full compositions)...I believe, deservedly, to be in the niche realm.
Also, rather inexpensive from various online sites. The entire line is great - but for citruses, I recommend Lime & Basil and Grapefruit & Citrus. Deeper compositions (but still very balanced) are Pomegranate & Incense and Teak Wood.
Cheers,

Form is emptiness, emptiness is form.
Yes, Yes and Yes. Try either the Eau de Rochas or the Eau de Rochas Pour Homme. I find the PH to be very similar to Blenheim Bouquet but with a mastic note.
I see you have Chanel PM already.
YSL Pour Homme is probably what you are looking for.
Another suggestion is Eau Dynamisante by Clarins. It has a patchouli note in the base that stops if being so "clean cut" as you say.
Maybe try something from the Penhaligons line? Quercus, Raquets and Blenheim Bouquet come to mind. Very traditional.
You should definitely try the Jardin series by Hermes. I recommend Sur le Toit or Sur le Nil.
(PS: en Mediterranée is very sweet and feminine IMO).
Do you like it? I tried it at the store and was glad I didn't blind buy it. Way too sweet for my taste.
I have Sur le Nil and have recently tried Sur le Toit, which I think has better top notes. I just wish it didn't dry down to a Sur-le-Nil base so I'd have both. I like Sur le Nil anyway.
Yes, I like both Sur Le Nil and En Mediterranee. They are the mango and fig representatives in my collection.
