    Exclamation Kouros=Aramis ?

I never owned a Kouros but Aramis many years ago.
I curiously have Kouros tested in a store today. Interestingly familiar and i recall the exact scent of Aramis(except the 2 minute opening).
Do u agree? Or anything wrong with my nose??

If you are newbie and used to fresh/gourmand/sport/aquatic scents then sure they might smell very similar to you.

Maybe that's the case. Can someone teach me the differences?

It took me months before I was able to detect several of the major notes, and then more than a year later I started to detect that some scents smelled much more natural than others (leading me to swap off or sell several bottles I had acquired). Sites like this one and Fragrantica have lists of notes, so you can get samples and compare what you smell to the lists. You can also read the reviews, though sometimes they are useless or misleading (just as the note lists can be, especially with more recent releases). So if get a bunch of samples (plenty of people sell them, including myself) you can take your time and study them. I found that if I wore a scent once very three weeks it gave my mind time to "digest" what I was smelling, but again it will likely take at least a few months.

Maybe it's my nose, but I cannot sense similarities between the two.

Find a big shop and do side by side comparisons, if possible.

The thing I like about your thread is that you are obviously hesitant about your conclusion that the two are alike (which they aren't).

Numerous others seem to have a lot more hubris and would have posted "Kouros smells exactly the same as Aramis", which in turn would have led to a collective groan all around the world by the readers of this forum.
    Cheers,

Kouros opens with a big blast of florals and civet that are so intense that they're almost medicinal...you'll find many references to "urinal cakes." The drydown is still intense, but evolves to a much cleaner, almost soapy floral. It's a marvel of development on the skin, but not for the faint of heart due to the contradictory floral and animal notes backed up by woods and oakmoss. It's both dandy and hairy-chested.

Aramis is a very dry, herbal/floral with a leather effect. It's very intense and sharp, and doesn't soften much in dry down...it just weakens a little. It's very intensely masculine with a similar mossiness, but isn't as overtly floral as Kouros.

They are both strong, but smell very different. If you smell them side by side, you will know right away that they are not similar.

They are both highly polarizing but that is where the similarity ends. I don't think they are even in the same fragrance family: Aramis is a dry herbal leather chypre; Kouros is a green, floral fougere. Personally I think they are both masterpeices but many strongly dislike them.

At first, I thought even Antaeus is in the same genre as Aramis and Kouros, but now I know better:
If you want to smell like a werewolf, use Antaeus
If you want to smell like a grizzly bear, use Kouros
If you want to smell like a rotten corpse, use Aramis

    Very different

I don't understand this fougere idea with Kouros (the incense idea makes more sense though it too seems problematic). If there is a lavender/coumarin accord it is obscured by other notes, and there's no strong oakmoss either. It and Orange Spice are rather unique, though scents like Boss #1 are not too far away (the Boss is a woodier idea).

Different scents, but for the same crowd. I'd never touch either.

Aramis (and the whole nasty family) is unpleasant and shrill to my nose, but I don't like sharp leathery fragrances. Kouros is one of the greatest scents of all time -- citrusy, floraly, and then . . . whack! Some kind of animal undertone to the whole thing. Damn, I love Kouros lately.

I don't think they're for the same crowd. My bottle of Classic Kouros is turning into a prized possession; I wouldn't be caught dead with Aramis.

There are only two similarities between Kouros and Aramis:

    1) Mega longevity
    2) Mega sillage

    Everything else is different.

Both are wonderful fragrances and I like them each very much. I find them totally different, however. As aforementioned, the only real similarity is strength and sillage!

I find that they are different indeed. I cannot bear the opening of Kouros. I can much more easily tolerate Aramis. Not that I would purchase either of the two.
