Grr...I did make a poll for this thread, but WiFi failed just as I went to post it, and it appears I can't add it through editing.

Lumiere Noire smells like the feeling of been in love has been bottled. It has a stunning opening with a ethereal character in it's progression from it's top notes to the white musk in the basenotes.

Declaration d'Un Soir to my nose is all about a romantic peppery pink rose that hit's you strong right out of the gate and stays pretty much like that through-out. Even though it gets a bit woodier and has a dash of cardamom it's the pink rose note I get for ages.

One thing that slightly irritates me a bit is I can detect a slight synthetic note just behind the rose. Also I find Soir just too linear though I like the scent but not over the long term. A good evening scent.

I like both but would have to go with Lumiere Noire Pour Homme as head and shoulders above Cartier's offering.

MFK Lumiere Noire Pour Homme. I purchased this one a few months back - great rose fragrance. Very long lasting. One of my 5 favorite rose fragrances.

    Love that description, Jack.

My vote goes to Lumiere Noire, clearly.

Lumiere Noir pour Homme if you're after a rose fragrance for the gentleman. I wouldn't exactly call it a fair fight as they have a different price points.

What a great rose fragrance Whashington Tremlett's Black Tie is! Don't hear it mentioned much any more, but I did a buzzlepuff rose elimination "War of Roses" blind double test of all the rose fragrances in my collection (@12 various rose scents) and to my surprise Black Tie was the winner. It was the favorite, but it was close between the top 4. I hope recent formulations have left it unchanged. Lumiere Noire pour Homme was second in my testing, Rose 31 was third, Noir de Noir fourth.

I sampled Declaration d' Un Soir but was turned off immediately. I was expecting something with more Declaration notes, I guess. Lumiere Noire pour Homme is the winner in this threads War of Roses - for me anyway.

Lumiere Noire by a KO in 10 seconds. They are not even in same league. I own samples of both and Declaration D un soir is just synthetic mess while Lumire Noire is creamy blanket of romantic sophistication (lol). I dont even smell roses in Declaration d un soir..

This was my experience too, I was disappointed by the Cartier. It's not bad but I expected it to be spicier. It seems somehow 'neutered'. Anyway my vote goes to Lumiere Noire, which is great.

Declaration d'un Soir gets too much credit for being a "rose" scent. Its all sandalwood and cardamom. The rose arrives late to the party, and then stands by the bar the whole time. Super boring perfume.

The MFK is great until the phase where its run out of gas (8hours or so). It gets so sour on my skin, i cant take it. It kind of reminds me of Egoiste strangely enough.

    Anything is better than DDUS

    Oh, Lumière without doubts!

But if we're speaking of "man" roses, I would prefer Amouage Lyric (superb, terrific!) or Tauer's Incense Rosé.

Also Hippie Rose by Heeley smells nice on paper, but on my skin sadly it smells like saliva. Czech & Speake Dark Rose is also cool (safe, but nothing special).
