Default Davidoff Silver Shadow and it's flankers

    Hello all,

I note that this fragrance was done by Francis Kurkdjian. I was looking on eBay today and noticed that there are a few flankers to this fragrance (i did not realize this before).

I'm just curious to get some opinions / comparisons on the original and flankers.

Thanks in advance for your time.

I just have the original and Silver Shadow Altitude. Both are nice. The latter to me seems like a lighter version of the original.

I used to own Silver Shadow, I recall getting it for a gift from my ex g/f, she knew I liked it after smelling it in the store. But, once I got it, I started to hate it. It's one of those that smells good in the bottle, or from a very far distance. On my skin, it was just too concentrated. Too much packed into the top notes, too thick, and too in your face. It kind of had a lot of potential, I recall it being a pineapple, powdery, floral scent, with a vanilla note behind it. If it were toned down, or balanced out with perhaps some spicy notes, it could have done better.

For comparisons, I think it's a little similar to Vera Wang for men.. but for the most part, it's pretty unique.

I have not smelled any of its flankers though. Not sure I really want to..

    Fahrenheit (1988)
    Paul Smith Man (2009)

I used to own the original Silver Shadow...I didn't like it. Too sweet, too synthetic. Haven't tried the flankers.

I have the Pure Blend one which came out at the time of the original release. They should have just called it "Intense". I really like both it and the EDT.

The original Silver Shadow smells just like Boss Bottled but with an oily orange note. It is pleasant to begin with but the orange smell becomes annoying. SS is what Boss Orange should have smelt like. I own SS Altitude and enjoy it. It is better than the original with the orange replaced with grapefruit. Much fresher and the greasiness has gone. But it still identifiable as SS due to some other notes. I've not tried any other flanker. I recommend Altitude - very nice.

Many thanks gentlemen - I appreciate your time.

One that I see on eBay that hasn't been mentioned is the "Private" flanker. Does anyone know about this ?

    Thanks

Silver Shadow private is quite a good flanker, give it a sniff.

I think Private is the best flanker for Silver Shadow, I like it...

Boss Bottled is an ambery fougere apple scent, while Silver Shadow seems like an oriental to me. I don't think they smell as similar as you suggest.

I have the original and love the smell. Sadly it lasts but a couple hours on me.

Only have tried Silver Shadow Altitude. It's not great but quite nice sometimes. A very casual scent, ideal wear to do some shopping or chores around the house. For some reason I still keep it around. I believe it's cause I'm quite partial to juniper.
