Default Dior Leather Oud - is it just me?

    Hey everyone,
a week ago I had the chance to test Leather Oud by Dior. I don't really know what's happening to me these days. I really like fougere/chypre scents, timeless classics like Chanel pour monsieur, Dior Eau Sauvage etc. But that very day, I got completely fascinated by Leather Oud. A true masterpiece in my eyes.

On my way home, the fragrance kept reminding me stronger and stronger of Antaeus. Am I the only one who has this opinion? That's why I can't really decide whether it's worth buying, as Antaeus is much more affordable here in Germany. (Well yes, it is EDT and Dior is EDP, but anyway I think Antaeus has both great longevity and sillage.) BTW: I'm a 21-year-old medical student.

    Thank you for your help!

I own both and find them wonderful but quite different. My advice is get it.

Great scent, but not for the faint of heart! Oud, Leather, Civet and spices. Very addictive smell to me . Definitely buy it, but I wouldn't wear it to med school lol!

Don't see the relation to Antaeus, more like Kouros to me!

I don't really see the similarities either (and I like both), but if they fill the same space for you, then that's fair.

What I do in those situations is wait. If the fragrance keeps calling to me and I keep wanting to go try it and wear it, then I get it. If I forget about it in a week, then that's that.

Don't see the resemblance but if you have a chance to purchase it then go for it, I doubt you will see it's like again if it's discontinued.

Unfortunately, the civet in Leather Oud doesn't work for me.

Not something I would wear around women. Can't see many of 'em liking this one.

Personally, I don't care for Dior Leather Oud at all. It smells like a barn. This is a smell I go out of my way to wash off, not put on.

I don't really get too much similarity with Antaeus, except they are both very animalic.

I see Leather Oud as the Big Brother to Antaeus...

...in the same way that I see Bois de Portugal as the Big Brother to Penhaligon's Douro Eau de Portugal.

But then, maybe it's just me...

I don't know if you are the only one who sees them as similar, but I know I don't.

I love both and find them different (one is a leather wood, the other a big spicy). They are both butch powerhouses, a style currently out of fashion, so in this sense there are similarities, if you will. But just in this sense. So they are not substitutes. Leather oud is indeed expensive, but not wildly so, per ml. The bottles are big (125 or 250ml) relative to the usual smaller niche stuff.

All you poor people that can't wear Leather Oud. It is simply amasing and really a steal at the price for 8 plus ounces. Dirty? Barnyard? Well, maybe. But it is perhaps my most complemented fragrance. One of my favorites without a doubt.

This is one of the only scents I truly had to scrub off, and it took a couple washings. I just kept giving me this image of a grandmother bathing a horse in a urinal. Just being honest, don't mean to offend.

Anateus has animalic middle notes but dries down to a cinnamon note. Leather Oud has a civet note for quite some time, till it dries down to this amazing animalic smoky oud wood, which lasts for 24 hours on my skin. Anateus is more comparable to Kouros, but Kouros is far better IMO.
