Thread: The kind daddy

    Default The kind daddy

I've come across 2 scents which I think to be suitably described as a warm-hearted , kind daddy or a trust worthy gentleman.

To be honest I do enjoy sniffing those . They kind of ground me and give me a sense of confidence at work. I can grasb a bit of comfort even under a hectic working environment.

    They are:
    Givenchy Gentleman
    Boss Elements

I really want more, something similar to explore onto.
    Anyone?

    Maybe Rive Gauche?
I'm giving it to my old school dad because I think it suits him more than it does on me.

    ooou, let me try.
Is it the cinnimon or patchouli that makes a scent so warm and comforting?
    What makes one?

Maybe also Chanel pour Monsieur- sturdy, no-nonsense, clean-cut, yet mild-mannered, impeccably yet also understated stylish, calm and comforting without losing a certain feeling of class, dignity and silent, timeless greatness (at least, this is the way I perceive this fragrance).

My current SotD (Maison Francis Kurkdjian Aqua Universalis Forte) is something with a light, clean linen type of scent which reminds me a bit of Hugo Elements (not in scent so much, but in style).

Thanks Ken. however, the Chanel man to me, would be the daddy who over-grooms just a bit, and forgets his family... hahaha
    just kidding
CPM, I tried it. Strangely it did some nice variations at the beginning... and all of a sudden I couldn't smell anything after a few minutes, strangely, completely gone!

To me, it sounds like you're looking for something along the lines of the Lagerfeld for men or Invasion Barbare. Very soothing gentleman scents, IMHO.

Ah - I understand. I would suggest something like Tom Ford Grey Vetiver then if you haven't tried that one yet.

Ooh, that's a good one. I'd also recommend Tom Ford For Men.

I think it's pretty unique, nothing really smell similar to it IMHO.
A warm yet soft and fruity floral scent with decent longevity and sillage. I've found that it makes people feel comfortable with you however somewhat formal! I know, it sounds really strange!
and one thing more, EVERYTIME I've wore it someone has asked me about my cologne!

I love scents like this too... and for me, Guerlain Derby throws out a "daddy" vibe, but it is one smooth and elegant daddy!

    Nice, thanks!
This one, however, smells like baby to me, it becomes my baby scent for bed.

I can see that. Maybe that's why it makes me feel paternal - although none of my kids smell like PuH!

Sorry, but Givenchy Gentleman smells anything BUT kindly gentleman to me.

Gentleman with ideas he shouldn't be having, maybe, but just plain kindly, no.

Definitely not Play Intense as someone suggested, unless you want to come across as teenage dad.

    Love this thread title. lol

I must admit I detest Boss Elements. Blech. But that Givenchy is good stuff, especially the vintage juice. One must like patchouli to enjoy this one though.

Try Lagerfeld Classic by Lagerfeld. Soft, powdery and daddy-ish. Well, at least to me.

Musc Ravageur. Daddy's got a life, too, however reluctant he might be to admit that.

But, seriously, Bulgari Pour Homme or Christian Dior Eau Sauvage. In spite of the latter's name, both connote sturdy, no-surprises reliabilty. What makes an alpha male so is his willingness to be responsible for the lives of others, and these two names have a lack of gaudy sexuality and unattractive vanity that would help to convey that message. I'd mention Van Cleef & Arpels Pour Homme but it is not kind. Very alpha, but it's no teddy bear.

Platinum Egoiste, Hilfiger Athletics, Giorgio and Ralph Lauren Romance come to mind.

Boss Elements - that strange scent which smells sharp and weird on one's wrist, but which smells great to most everyone else from a distance.

I've never understood why this one seems mostly forgotten. I got a great compliment on it the other day while getting a haircut. The woman who was cutting my hair seemed in love with it. A few minutes after I sat down in her chair, she asked "Is that your shampoo? Something smells amazing." To be fair, I do a spray to the back of my neck, and she was standing behind me when she noticed it. I told her what it was and she said "That's cologne? Wow. It doesn't smell like what guys wearing cologne smell like, y'know?" In case you're curious, she was in her 20s and fiery hot... annnnnnnnnnd in a LTR with another woman who I'm guessing is also stunning. Sigh. About ten minutes later, she literally interrupted herself while talking and said "Man you smell good."

Tom Ford For Men. 3 sprays. Why this stuff is so underrated in the fragrance community, I'll never know. Not that I mind. It's definitely a gentlemanly scent.
