Default Memoir Man and Royal Oud - similar?

So I sampled Amouage Memoir Man and the first thing that struck me was how much it reminded me of Creed Royal Oud.

So I did a side-by-side comparison on my arms:
They do indeed have a similarity. However, Royal Oud seems more in your face and projects better. Memoir Man is more toned down and refined. My wife liked both scents, but Memoir Man more.

Do you think the two share any similarity? And which one do you prefer?

Only tried the Amouge twice, and own the Creed. Don't recall them being similar, at least not to me.

I get the similarity. There must be a leather/vetiver type combo. In whole, they are different scents but share some sort of brown/green vibe. If I analyzed the notes, I'm sure I could figure it out.
Is the juice worth the squeeze?

I don't find them to be similar. I prefer Royal Oud.

I have them both, and love both of them, but I never really found them to be all that similar.

    Totally different.
Memoir is more complex and I prefer it.

Hm, I can't say I really see the similarity. Memoir Man is a lot heavier on the incense notes and has that anise/wormwood opening with a blast of pepper. Royal Oud also has some pepper, but it seems lighter to me and is supported differently. I've only worn the latter once and the former is one of my favorite fragrances, so I may be a little hazy on them.

They don't seem similar to me.

Memoir Man is green wormwood and mint, sweetened very slightly by the incense, until the vetiver/amber emerges in the drydown. Royal Oud is cedar and pepper up front, a bit of citrus and then you're locked in a drawer full of old pot-pourri for hours. To my nose, not similar at all.

Have both - LOVE Royal Oud, like Memoir Man but does not use it all that much. Can't really see the similarities, to be honest.

Sold my bottle of Royal Oud. Doesn't last worth a darn on me. Smells great for an hour, then nothing. Darn Creeds... Amouage M.M. Much higher quality but for the money, I will take Opus VI or Kilian Pure Oud, or Montale (any of their ouds)

I don't get any similarity but I do think Memoir Man is the better fragrance than Royal Oud. I wonder if any other fragrance house has thought of putting "Royal" in the name of their scent:

    Royal Fahrenheit
    Royal Rive Gauche
    Royal Kyoto
    Royal Portrait Of A Lady

Do this change your perception of the fragrance because of the word and can anyone just put that at the start of a fragrance as you would think a member of a royal family would have endorsed it or something. lol

I don't own either but have tested both and I don't get the likeness -- Memoir Man is much more complex and has an absinthe note.

Memoire is herbal green and Royal oud is woody to me. Don't see similarity.

Well, to me they're both very strong. But that's about the only similarity.

Don't much like Memoir Man. Like Royal Oud, but don't love it -- my nose gets tired of it very, very quickly (which only happens with Tobacco Vanille and Royal Oud).

On me, Royal Oud lasts a long time.
