My fragrance journey has come to and end. My last bottle.

I started off like most.. 15 years ago with one cologne a year... usually a CK, Armani, Polo etc. A few years ago I got serious and got my self Allure Home sport for summer and John Varvatos for winter. Then this last year I was looking for a new signature scent, went on to you tube to check the reviews and BAMMMMM.. that was it.. I was now in the game.

In that 18months I've been obsessed, purchased at least 50 bottles/decants and maybe 70 samples. I started with designer colognes.. all the top rated... got my bottle count to 30 within a few months.. I was hitting the mall weekly, id blind buy at the discounters cuz I could get a 100ml bottle for under $40.

Then I discovered niche... I started racking up samples of all the top rated niche. Buying a bottle or getting in on a split weekly...once I went to niche... I had no use for the designers.. stated selling... all the great ones all my Chanell, all the Dior all the D&G... maybe recuped half my money... I am down to a few designer, I wont sell...I did better with the Niche.. the only ones I bought and sold off were Creeds.. dam longevity issues, aventus included. the high dessert is a dry climate... no room for the weak!
And now I sit with my last purchase.. Im not interested in anything else.. I am sure there are many great scents out their I have not smelled but I also know I have some of the very best..like I say I have sampled all the great houses..the bottle I got today, my last bottle Avingon... it is sad day for me...I will re up when I run out of each but for now I am settled...later GENTS

You're set, sally forth. And pick up that Dior Homme when chance permits.

I felt that way some time ago, and left these boards for a considerable period of time, and now, albeit somewhat infrequently, I am back, and buying a few things now and then. Yes, the heat of the battle and the joys of discovery wane, but does the fire actually go out entirely?

OK. Enjoy those for now - nice collection.

    See you next month then!

Isn't it funny - 17 bottles of fragrance would seem ludicrously excessive to the normal person, but I think many of us here @ BN are debating with themselves "Could I pare down my collection to 17 for the rest of my life?"

Well done to you, Foxxworthi. You may just have broken the vicious cycle of acquisition, though I'll be on this ride for a few more years at least.

I've never hit a hobby/passion so hard. It was balls to the walls I NEED everything right now! kind of love affair. It's becoming a true problem (when I say problem, I mean I am racking up my credit card debt to the point of not being able to pay it off) and I thought about maybe not logging on to Basenotes or any fragrance related websites. Out of sight, out of mind, right?

Maybe one day the interest will just fade for me, or maybe I will force-quit. Or perhaps I will reach the end of the road and feel content with all that I gained.

I feel you. A nice "little" collection to be proud of. Honestly not much more is needed. I should learn from you. Time to sell off he stuff I bought "just because". I will use your Amouage collection as a template since I just discovered the house with JXXV and Epic and want one more from them.

Kudos to you, Foxxworthi. I am feeling where you're at. I started out with designer in the 90s (wish I'd held onto those early Antaeus and L'Egoiste!), moved into niche and am now hunting out the last of the vintage designer stuff that I miss the most. Once my collection is compete, I will leave the forum and just keep on eye out for bottles of vintage stuff.

I've already got enough juice to last at least 5 years so I'll look forward to bowing out gracefully.

I'm starting to feel the same way but still need that ultimate incense fragrance. Oh yes, and Frapin 1697. And maybe some more Profumum Roma...

Fragrances are sort of like eating the same meal every night. You can have a set of fragrances you enjoy, but without adding something new, you will get bored. I bet you "spice up your perfume cabinet" after 6 months or so...

Sometimes we get fed up with all our life. Sometimes with just a slice of it. I wish you that you find enough pleasure and happiness in what you still have - friends, family, anything else.

Our passions are what remind us that we are alive, but there is also a place within those passions for ease and moderation.

Cudos to you for seeking that balance. That's a part of a well-lived life as well.

Same here... sampling is great but I don't feel the need of purchasing whatever anymore. I'll keep it ot backups of what I love, a couple of frags I want but don't have the money right now, and some gem I may find with my "accidental" sampling.
    Back to basics, I think...
... And do me a favor - don't disturb my friend. He's dead tired.

    Welcome to the Bwahahaha! era...

I hope I never tire of fragrances. Unfortunately it will probably happen like the rest of my hobbies. 30 bottles is already overwhelming enough for me. My want list already doubles that. Go broke or die trying..
