    Default Introduction and my collection

Hi everyone! This is my first post on basenotes and I'd just like to introduce myself and hopefully get some feedback on how my collection is shaping up. I'm a high school student in Canada and I'm extremely interested in fragrances. My dream is to one day be a perfumer or at least be somewhere or somehow in the business. I plan to study chemistry or go into chemical engineering in university. Anyway, I've always used my nose a lot and smelled things. I find the sense of smell to be the most amazing sense, smells conjure up many feelings and memories for me.
I want to keep this somewhat short but I plan to be as active of a member as I can be here on basenotes(I've lurked for far too long). It seems like a great community with many great, helpful and wise people.

    Collection:
    Dior Fahrenheit
    Polo Black
    YSL L'homme
    YSL M7 (vintage)
    YSL Rive Gauche
    Creed Aventus
    Creed Millesime Imperial
    Creed Green Irish Tweed
    Essenza di Zegna
    Davidoff Cool Water
    Bond No. 9 New Haarlem
    Perry Ellis Aqua
    Chanel Allure Homme Edition Blanche
    Terre d'Hermes
    Burberry London
    Angel Men TOF
    Lacoste Essential
    Clinique Happy
    Gucci by Gucci Sport
    Versace The Dreamer
    Versace Eau Fraiche
    Givenchy Play

I'm looking to get a leather like Tuscan Leather soon and go further into niche if I can, but any suggestions on where to take my collection would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone.

Hello and welcome from another Canuck. You do have a nice collection already. As for a leather, my choices would be SMN Peau d'Espagne(a very strong leather)or Etro-Gomma. Happy sniffing.

    Cheers Rex

What about SpiceBomb or YSL L'Homme Libre? I don't own either, but heard fairly good things about them

For a cheaper leather (that doesn't smell cheap), try L'Essence de Cerruti by Cerruti.

    Welcome! Good collection.

As others were saying, you can start from less expensive, and perhaps better, leathers, like Estee Lauder Azuree (or the similar, more musky Aramis) or, in niche, the classic Knize Ten. And Bulgari Black for the related rubber note (similar to that in Etro Gomma).

You should also explore the perfumes marketed to women, most of which would be perfect for men. From orientals like Shalimar to chypre-like things like Chanel Cristalle or Guerlain Mitsouko.

Make sure to sample fredric malle, amouage and montale. Those are one of my favorites. On top of the list are Musc ravegeur, portrait of lady, Jubiliation, Interlude, Epic, White Oud, Black Oud and Dark Oud.

Welcome foughare. It's very nice to see you here. Welcome.

My little pieces of advice would be these; If you are in it for the long haul, take your time. Get to know each of the fragrances that you add to your collection. Really get to know them. Once you get to know them you will remember them and you will build a fragrance reference library in your memory. Keep notes.

    Enjoy!

Enjoy those designers, and as a college goer, don't even think of
venturing in the niche territory. Too much money they cost.
That kind of money should be spent when you have a job that
    makes you afford such interests.
You are of course entitled to your own viewpoint.
