    Default Bois d'Iris - Beautiful

This is such an amazing iris perfume.
Probably the most masculine iris I have ever smelled, it's perfectly unisex and wearable.
And sensual. Amazingly sensual actually. And haunting.
Less daring than Dior Homme IMO. (no lipstick)
It has that Ellena minimalist approach.
Which in this case seems to have a "it's naturally oozing out of my pores" effect.

Why is nobody talking about this?

My wife really loves this scent. I think it smells great. Especially the dry down. Glad I have a bottle.

I think he was referring to the Different Company one as Ellena is the nose behind it and he mentions Ellena.

His reference to Ellena indicates he is talking about The Different Company's.

I also love this fragrance. A very natural, elegant, woody iris.

I love this scent - a dry, really wonderful idealized rendition of iris

Yes, this is one is a great representation of Ellena's abilities, and a great iris fragrance all the way around. Airy, yet fulfilling.

Bois d' Iris is indeed a fantastic iris scent. It is subtle, sublime and either masculine or feminine at the same time - kind of neutral and cool - It's like Switzerland for fragrances - totally neutral. Ellena was an early adapter, ahead of the wave of new iris perfumes launching this in 2000. There is not much talk about iris scents lately and none about Bois d' Iris. About 5 or 6 years ago, iris was very much in fashion here on Basenotes and many threads appeared extolling the virtues of everyones favorite iris scent including Bois d' Iris. The favorites from those days were usually: TDC Bois d' Iris, LeLabo Iris 39 (my fav of this group), SL Iris Silver Mist, 28 La Pausa, or Divine L' Homme Couer. There are many others too. These were popular as a mens fragrance and still are to some extent; and then Dior Homme was launched in 2005. The market said what's this and it wasn't very successful in the mainstream initially - almost got discontinued, but Dior started adjusting it, marketing with variations, and Dior Homme gained momentum and took over the iris conversation at least for masculine fragrances ever since. It's pretty much been all about Dior Homme for mens iris perfumes since then. There are a few new iris scents that have gotten attention in recent years. These are: Cuir d' Iris, Iris d' Nuit by Heely, Iris Nazarena by Aedes, Equistris Parfum d' Empire and Papillon Angelique (2014) - all are stunning iris fragrances and work for men - but still not much of an improvement on the quality or appeal since TDC Bois d' Iris launched 14 years ago. All these iris scents have their own nuances and differences. Every collection should contain a solid iris fragrance - probably one good iris would do and Bois d' Iris by JC Elllena would fill that need. This is one I have never owned, but will retest Bois d' Iris along with Ellena's new iris/violet leather fragrance - Hermes Cuir d' Ange.

Longevity is good but projection is bit below average.
It's one of those perfumes that's revived by body warmth.
Have a cup of tea or some extracted espresso.
