Default What are your most loved incense fragrances?

    - not churchey, possibly

I have fallen for the new Armani Myrrhe Imperiale and am wondering whether to get this or explore more..
    What are your favourites?
P.S. I don't like 'em waxy (as in Sideris) or gravey (Messe de Nuit or the Jovoy LLDH)
    Thanks!

I have not smelled Myrrhe imperial, but I find it hard to imagine how it could possibly surpass Lutens's La Myrrhe for this material.

Non-churchy is tough when it comes to incense, but Matriarch's Blackbird is really good. It gives off more of a head shop style impression, but plays some weird musk tricks as well. It opens with an almost sweet leather note alongside the incense (non-smoky), and works its way down to a fuzzy musk with insane sillage.

Interlude Man's sort of nuts, but I love it. Semi sweet, oregano, amber-y incense. Pretty much all of the others I like are churchy (Avignon, NK Incense, La Liturgie etc.)

Interlude Man. My god, it's fantastic. Challenging, but fantastic. It's easily in my top 5 of all time. Epic Man is also a stunner, as is Memoir Man.

Bentley for men Intense. A fragrance associated with a car company has no business smelling this good. Wow. (Hat-tip to Palmbeach, who introduced me to this one. He clearly knows his stuff and then some)

I know you said not-churchy, but Gucci Pour Homme (2003) deserves a mention because it's absurdly good. Even the bottle is amazing.
I have a 100ml Gucci Pour Homme 2003 that I'll swap for Reflection Man or De Bachmakov. PM me if interested.

Memoir Man and Interlude Man strike me as excellent 'non churchy' expressions of frankincense.

Not sure if it would qualify but in the same vein I think Balsamo della Mecca is a somethng of a masterpiece.

Guerlain's Encens Mythique d'Orient is also beautiful but it's really the ambergris that steals the show.

Lot's. But I'll tell you this, my colleague has been wearing Tom Ford Sahara Noir and it's really terrific. It's all about frankincense to me, but it's woody and ambery too. Frankincense/oud/benzoin.....etc. It's very luxurious, quite dry, and it just seems to hit the right note.

Oh, and have to say, CDG Kyoto is among my all time favourites. Incense with cool cypress. Notes: incense, cypress oil, coffee, teak wood, patchouli, amber, cedar and immortal flower.

Maria Candide Gentile has a lovely hand with frankincense, try Exultat or Sideris.

Sideris is a bit too waxy, Sahara Noir nice but harsh, and Exultat is really really good.

I could I have forgotten about this. Very very very nice stuff. Actually most of the Maria Candida Gentile's range makes a fantastic option if you're into incense.

How rude of me!! You mentioned in your opening post that you found Sideris waxy. Sorry. I'm the easily distracted type!
