    Cool Most complimented Niche -

I did this one before on the old browser but now I cannot seem to find ANY of the posts on it anymore....Im still trying to get all of my posts back and reviews from the older website, but if you guys could humor me and give me your top 2-3 most complimented NICHE fragrances, I would greatly appreciate it...And YES, I know you guys on BN don't typically wear scents for anybody else but yourself but I'm sure you occasionally get compliments whether warranted or not...

And Please NO CREED'S Fragrances...I have plenty of those....

Thanks again for your help !

And I'm trying to get use to this new updated site but thus far, not liking it too much...

Yep I sold it...Too "Oudy" for my liking and I didnt really get any compliments from wearing it....including my wife...So, yes, that one is out....The Parfum d' Nicolai seems interesting but not really into POWDER scents...I heard this one might be a little powdery on the dry down...Can you elaborate on this one more ?

I remember the oud issue u had - i pm'd u on the mona di orio oud - i'm telling u again - try it - it's oud is tamed but of very high quality. buy a sample - don't buy the FB, it's 500+...

As for NY - no, i don't find it too powedery - but try b4 buying, new juice is relatively weak, powederiness we get might vary by our skin as well.

Also exclude Malle's POAL off my list - it's a b'ful floral, which again might not be to your tastes...

Other complimented niche fragrances, at least according to past discussions, impressions shared firsthand with other fragrance fans, positive feedback etc.: possibly also Tom Ford Black Orchid and Tuscan Leather, Penhaligons Endymion.

From left field for me and perhaps not something that appeals to the wearer at first spray. (Which means give it multiple tests on the skin.) But after many wearing I will report that every time I wear Opus VII I get several complements. Wears like an old school mens fragrance but lacking the middle floral notes and never cloying. Very green at the opening and a delicious finish. A new favorite.
    My Favorites

    1. Amouage Epic man
    2. Dior Leather Oud
    3. Perris Monte Carlo Oud Imperial Black
    4. Le Labo Patchouli 24
    5. Amouage Opus VII
    6. Byredo Bullion
    7. Norma Kamali Incense

Absolutely the most unprompted complements I have gotten from any cologne. Everything from 40 something yoga super cougars, to 21 year old girls, to the dude at Taco Bell asking what cologne I was wearing cause he wants to smell like me. I am 38 if that gives any frame of reference.

I wore Helmut Lang Cuiron in medical school and got tons of complements from it as well. I used to study in Starbucks in the Viagra Triangle of Chicago and lots of 30-40 something women would always come up to me. Sadly I only have about 5ml left.

Some are not really niche - nonetheless, I receive lots of compliments when I wear these...

Pascal Morabito's Or Black - one of the best leathers imo of all time.
    Odori - Cuoio & Tabacoo
    Narciso Rodriguez Musc
    Nina Ricci Phileas
    Robert Piguet Bandit

    In vintage version:
    Ho Hang Club Balenciaga
    Worth PH Haute Concentration
    Trussardi Uomo (leather outer cover)
Paco Rabanne PH (strictly vintage only - THX ericrico)

    Also try out:
    Amouage Dia man

And although it's very new, 1899 by Histoires de Parfums. 4 wears, 5 or 6 compliments (This is a great fragrance by the way, which kind of slipped under the radar this year due to a low profile and people writing it off quickly because it smells like Spicebomb a little bit in the opening. But it's so good and so easy to wear.).

Gotta agree here. Some amazing reactions from the fairer sex.

Also, big shout to Cedre by Serge Lutens, with the rather feminine tuberose note. Women lap this up on me.

The missing data is pretty much across the board, so every one who's used the site in the last 6 months is affected. It's a priority on this end, so keep patient and fingers crossed it'll all be back sooner than later.

I think some people think Creed and even TF to SOME degree is borderline designer but not because these parfumers make clothing or have a clothing line but because its soooo mainstream now...I still think Guerlain is niche but many people disagree....

Well, maybe it depends on what you consider to differentiate niche from designer. Personally, being named after a design house is what does it. Price and availability don't to me. Guerlain and Creed would be niche brands because fragrance is their niche, imo.

    Frapin - cognac
by Killian - also cognac, but by the son, so maybe not designer. Though his family is part of the largest designer conglomerate on the planet.
    Heeley - product, package design
Kinski - celeb scent for Klaus
    Clive Christian - furniture
    Tom Ford - fashion designer
    Chanel - fashion designer
    Dior - fashion designer
    Helmut Lang - fashion designer
Comme de Garcons - fashion designer
    Armani - fashion designer
    Pascal Morabito - designer
    Narciso Rodriguez - fashion designer
    Nina Ricci - fashion designer
    Piguet - fashion designer
    Trussardi - fashion designer
    Rabanne - fashion designer
    Lutens - fashion designer

Dunno, been thinking about this a fair bit. Like when the Bentley thread had people blind buying a brand new car brand at ~$100 a bottle but avoiding Ferrari, Hummer, Mustang, and Cadillac because car brands aren't generally considered high quality. And it isn't like there is no parallel between Ferrari and Bentley for pricing on their primary offerings.

    Nicely said.

But yes I suppose it does come down to ones own view or opinion
I still wouldn't know what to consider guerlain and Tom ford as.

People were blind buying Bentley Intense based off of very positive reviews from two well respected members here (Hedonist, and Drseid). Have you tried it? It's actually much higher quality than anything Ferrari, Cadillac, or Hummer have done.

Haven't tried it, not really interested in boozy notes. Also not questioning the quality, just thought it was interesting that an auto brand got such good traction. It seems to be because they started off well, while Ferrari is considered to have made a mistake in charging what they do for the Essence series. That just seems weird to say for a company that makes almost all their money from quarter million dollar vehicles. Maybe they just started off selling too cheaply and only injured their status in relation to fragrance.
