Question Guerlain HERITAGE - Eau de Parfum versus Eau de Toilette ?

My first question here is, has the eau de parfum been discontinued ?
It used to be commonly available in perfumeries here in France as an alternative to the edt. Now it is hardly ever available......

Secondly, has this fragrance, (in edt/ edp format) been affected by reformulation ?

What are the differences between the edt and edp ?

Finally, how many basenoter's actually prefer Heritage to Derby ?

    Thanks for your opinions !

As far as I know the edp is not discontinued but just hard to come by with limited places selling it.

The edp has that dirty civet in the opening and is more thick and full bodied where the edt is lighter and more easy to wear. As a personal preference I prefer the vintage edt as it's more richer than the current one which feels slightly watered down in comparison. To me the vintage edt is the perfect formulation of Heritage.

Between Heritage and Derby I would go for Heritage, I like Derby but that green herbal spicy leather accord is not to my taste and feels a little dated.

David, the EdP is stocked by Marionnaud:

    http://www.marionnaud.fr/Marionnaud/...p/BP_100123112

Personally I prefer the EdP as it possesses more depth. That buttery vanilla is rather addictive and I prefer the way it wears (it projects less than the EdT). That said, they aren't 1 million km apart.

I agree with Jack that Derby is a bit more dated/mature, but they are in the same ballpark really (not for kiddies). Derby is gruffer and stiffer whereas Heritage is warmer but still gentlemanly.

Thanks for your advice Jack and Marais.
Does anyone know how to identify older stock of the edp, (box/ bottle design) etc. ?

I've owned the vintage edt & edp (both bottles completed ); now own the current edt formulation seen below - to my nose - this is one of the few guerlain's that hasn't been affected by reformulations - whatever was changed is extremely minimal imho. As for Derby vs Heritage - Derby wins by a mile for me...Ladies might prefer Heritage on us than derby though...

I also saw the EDP in Duty Free shops when leaving Europe in July, so it's still available. Personally don't notice that much of a difference between the EDT & EDP in terms of smell, but the EDP lasts longer on my skin. I own and like both Heritage and Derby but don't prefer one over the other.

I love Heritage; my ranking: vintage EDP > vintage EDT > current EDP > current EDT
The vintage flacons got a golden sprayer and cap.

I agree with what Marais says with regards to the EDP. Go for that one David, as I think you will far more satisfied with that one than any of the EDT's. I was not that impressed with the older EDT even and just feel the EDP is much more enveloping and satisfying.

David - you might want to see this thread below - on the same subject...

    http://www.basenotes.net/huddlerarchive/372877

The longevity between the current formulation(silver cap) and any older formulation(golden cap) is a big difference.
Any older formulations longevity is at least 12 hours. The current formulation is a LOT less.

sorry, one very basic question. In a perfume shop close to my home they sell heritage EDP I'm really looking forwards to buying) for 68 euro. I don´t know though for how long it's been standing on the shelf, but I presume quite a long time, maybe years. How long does a perfume like this need to lessen its qualities? Thank you very much

It depends... Some of those bottles are affected by the heat of the lamps. If it's just sitting there in the box stored away from any source of heat (direct exposure to the sunlight might affect the fragrance as well), it should be fine.

Thank you very much. I'll get it and expose my conclusions about the EDP.

I only know and incidentally also own and love the vintage EDT, so while I am not the most likely for EDP recommendations, would be eager to test the EDP asap, perhaps also returning with some testing impressions within a BN thread/post.

Just recently, about two weeks ago, purchased a bottle of the EDP and now like it better than the EDT although the EDT is also quite nice.

I started with the silver cap Heritage EDT. Quite nice actually. But now I just picked up the vintage and... wow! Creamier and richer sandalwood, less powder. Given the choice, I'd go with vintage, but I like having both -- current is good for warmer weather, vintage for cooler weather.

Not sure I'd want the EDP, as I find this vintage Heritage just right. Feels like a denser formulation would make it harder to wear.

EDT. The EDP is lovely, but it hasn't got the fruity/floral touch that the EDT has that balances out the woods. But the difference between the two is not really immense.

    ^ Yes, that's vintage.

While anyone can figure out that silver cap means current and gold cap means vintage, there is another distinction.

See that curly symbol for Guerlain? That is present on vintage bottles, but not on current ones. This is useful to know in the case of bad photos where it's hard to tell the color of the cap, or the cap is missing (although the collar around the sprayer will be silver or gold).

I may be wrong but as far as I know the juice in the gold cap bottles are the same as this bottle. The only difference is that this one is a splash and the one you have is a spray.

I have the bottle as shown in the photos.

It is a 125ml splash EDT, limited edition bottle with simple presentation box, and the bottle has Jean Paul Guerlain's signature engraved on the rear. It dates from 1992.

    Smells divine.

The edt will be my next fragrance purchase (blind buy). From reviews and preferences of commenters I think it'll be a good fit for me. Hopefully I can hold off on buying anything more until fall when I'll be blind buying Encre Noire.
