    Yes, thanks indeed! (153)
Remember that while it is perfectly acceptable to criticize the content of a post - criticizing the poster is not.
Mean spirited, nasty, snide, sarcastic, hateful, and rude individuals don't warrant or deserve other individuals' acknowledgement or respect.

    The Lancome review is hilarious!

Thanks for reviving this thread - I'd missed it!

After reading the Lancome review, I wondered what the perfume would have to do to get only a one-bottle rating. Then I read the Valentino review.

if anyone wants to revive a thread while we're waiting for the Huddler stuff to return, go ahead. If you'd like, we can simply combine them when the original reappears. If it's a long thread and you really want it connected to the original, just send one of us a PM when we're back on track and we'll take care of it.

I'm still laughing at that Lancome review: "Just enough jasmine and orange flower to distinguish it from toilet-bowl cleaner"

My pleasure! I think every other monday is party time for perfume´s lovers.

That´s guts to say the truth! Notwithstanding the fancy name and so many millions expended in ads with the charming Julia Roberts on them.

That´s what intelligence, in perfume´s critic or any other field, is intended for.

"the reptiles at Coty", and "a fetid abomination" lol!

Agree with his opinions or not, Dr. Turin can certainly write.

At the risk of appearing thick, I cannot seem to access all of Mr. Turin's reviews. It seems there are only a few recent ones. Might someone be able to enlighten me as to where the archives are at this site? TIA

Mr. Turin is back on duty since august or so, then what you see it's what you'll get.
Other sources of Mr. Turin's stuff is The Guide (amazon it) and a blog's archive you can find here in BN.
    That's all, isn't it?

Wonderful reviews! Love the way Grossmith got kudos for the incredible effort they made in keeping it real. Nice to see just recognition meted out to the honest little people every once in a while.

Anybody else using Firefox have trouble navigating this one? I couldn't make the pages transition for the life of me. Thankfully, Safari works nicely on the website.

    3 weeks without reviews ...

I've seen his name many times but hadn't gotten around to reading his reviews... until now.

Is this a fine example of how profoundly he can dismiss a fragrance?

    Valentina Assoluto Oud
"Three exhausted, strung-out clichés thrown together: a stale fruit salad, a piercing woody-amber and a cheap, chemical oud, the latter intended to—supposedly—appeal to an Arab audience. A fetid abomination."

If so, I'm intrigued. Must read more.

Luca is hard to impress. I will take one of his one-star quibbles (words like "quality components, but ultimately uninspired") over a dozen 5-star reviews by others. If Luca says "not bad", you can actually take it to the ATM.

Recapping his favourites, so it doesn't look like there are any new reviews up yet

    That's pretty odd for me

    - - - Updated - - -

"In fact, it smells flat, sour and yeasty, like rye bread or the exhaust of a brewery. Lancôme mixes it with a touch of vanilla and sugary maltol, adds just enough jasmine and orange flower to distinguish it from toilet-bowl cleaner, and launches it into the world portrayed by the gaunt, megadontic face of Julia Roberts. I wonder who actually recognises themselves in a fragrance like this? Are there enough sour-hearted, daft, artistically brutish, spiritually stunted creatures out there to make this a straight-up success? "

Is this the reason for Turin´s dissapearing from style?

    Back to the dark ages?

The total lack of information really let me down!

1 month without reviews, that's weird. If Turin no longer writes for Style I hope this does not affect his plans for his upcoming book of reviews .

I have sleuthed this out with Condé Nast.
According to the publisher Message in a Bottle is alive and well and returning in January.
I think Luca and Tania may be shifting countries at the moment from Greece to Germany.

The archive of all Luca Turin's Message in a Bottle columns is here (in English and in Arabic):

A link to a recent interview with him on Greece, Smell and the Future of Science is (in English and Greek) here:
